10's on street tires.? I would love to see that. Not saying it cant be done, I would like to see that. you have to respect any fast car. FWD, RWD or AWD. I have had all three types in the 12's on the streets.

probably wont happen this season since it is almost over and he is gearing up form the last event (on slicks) but from talking to him he is tired of tring to chase all the shop hondas with deep pockets that are well into the 9s and trapping over 150

I know a couple civics that will race you right here in town .... one a ver stock looking civic hatch untill the hood is opened to reveal a gt40r sitting on a top mount with a 4" turbo back exhaust ... might also add that he ran 10.4 @ 135 ... oh and dont forget the parachute mount out the rear bumper

One thing you should know about me is that I would never back down from a race no matter what kind of times anyone else runs. I wasnt trying to imply that Civics cant be fast I was just trying to say this one got raped. And he thoguht he was all that with his 4#'s of boost whcih Im sure is on a bone stock motor. As for your friend with the 10.4 CIVIC, hook it up. I race on the street. No track only crap. And as far as CIVICS here in town go, all the turbo ones Ive ran into usually wont race anything but other civics. They are usually pretty snotty, and think waaay too much of themselves. Even the turbo Integra guy s I see around are pretty lame. I have yet to be beaten by one of these type.

really .... that reply is getting lame .... a sy is still an s-10 I really dont understand how you can serisouly say that a sy/ty is in some way better than any fast car just because its a "honda" or a "neon" its not like you own a ferrari or a porshe

I'm just giving you $hit  !!! Settle down a little, trust me i've lost to my share of honda's at the track (never on the street) I know they can be fast. I personally hate driving anything FWD, so I feel this small need to harass anyone that shows any interest, I mean come on this is Sy/Ty
Ohh and for the record a SyTy and YES even a SGT is still way better then a honduh, if you don't believe me ask ANYONE of this website :rotf:

EDIT: You might check around the Sy out ran the Ferrari so I wouldn't need one :p

he wont race on the street .... its not exactly wise or safe to go 130mph anywhere except the track .... too many variables, not to mention cops.. another friend I have has a teg that might run you on the street when he gets his new tranny in.

I am not at all talking shit here ... I just get tired of the "its still a honduh" line

Yeah I hear ya on getting tired of what some people say. Go read all my kills, 50% of people basically say Im a liar. I race on the street so unless your buddy can grow some balls Ild say quit talkin for him. I know of quite a few places we can run em where cops arent in the way. Even got a few measured out places where I do all my datalogging. Let me know. BTW, Im hoping to have your datamaster cable done tomorrow.

Re: Almost lost to turbo CIVIC

the closest track is 80 miles away. I dont street race much. I only have raced my Sy 4 times in a year on the street. I just see some imports pull next to my friends sti and say they cant race because they dont have their race tires on. Street racing is dangerous. I do like to take a guy off the line and up to 60-70mph. Then I let off.

I can understand distance but but we live relitively close to a track

Re: Almost lost to turbo CIVIC

When I was in my mustang I was taunted by imports all the time. Almost everyday I was challenged. The look of my car and the sound the supercharger made attracted attention. So much that my wife made me get rid of it. With the Syclone only 4 times I was challenged. Some guys have something to prove and others like to have fun. We have an advantage on the street...we dont have to change tires. at any given time with a touch of a button on the boost controler I am ready to race. I would love to run at a track. I never have raced at a real track. I knew a guy who knew a guy that had a long driveway(asphalt) on a ranch in gilroy and we could run 1/8 mile runs on it. But you had to stop fast or you will end up on the street. other then that I have used tunning equiptment to get times. why some people street race over track is like why some chose imports over muscle cars or slammed over lifted trucks. Its whatever floats your boat. :2cents:

Some reasons are you can do it right now, you don't have to wait till Fri or Sat night or drive all the way to the track. You don't have to worry about a tech offical saying you can't run because your battery doesn't have a disconnect switch or you leaked the smallest amount of coolant or oil on the track now you need to leave. Don't get me wrong i know why we have tech's I just don't want to deal with them and it's easier to run on the street.
Also in the 7-8 years of being around street and track racing i've seen way more accidents happen at the track then ever happen on the street, just my :2cents:

The street is far more exciting IMO. More options as well. No rules. Maybe Im kind of a rebel.

Re: Almost lost to turbo CIVIC

Hello,

I found this thread by searching for dataloggging and that's still what I'm looking for, so if you know a good thread for datalogging on a syty, please point me in the correct direction.

However, I read the above posts regarding racing/street racing.

I can confidently say I've been racing/street racing for more years than some of you have been alive. To me, there are two types of street racing. The impromptu lineup at the traffic light on regular streets in town and the "illegals" where everyone goes out to an abandoned or seldom used road and races.

The problem with the illegals is cops bust them from time to time (which I think is a mistake on their part) and the occasional drunk or high idiot who poses a risk to everyone. I was almost run over by one of these idiots on more than one occasion. Also if a car gets out of control, people can get hurt with no one to help. Something to think about, although I feel this form of "street racing" far less dangerous than the "stop light grand prix."

The "stop light grand prix" has a lot of problems. "Civilian traffic" is the largest. People turning into the street from driveways and other streets is a very high risk. Right now there is sitting out in a landfill what used to be one of my fastest and best rides. I was street racing and this lady just pulled out in front of us and stopped. No explanation, she just stopped. Anyway, I clipped her and to make a very long story short, my car ended up totaled. There was a not a straight piece left on the car. True, I was able to salvage the drivetrain, but i had $25k in custom work done to the car, (body, paint, frame mods, suspension, etc) not to mention the car itself. (in today's value, about $25K) Oh yea, and the $5K I paid the lawyer to keep me out of jail and the $2500 fine I paid to the court and the $6000 increase in my insurance premiums over the next 5 years. Oh yea, I had to pay $1500 to have her car fixed and no one else (that the cops knew about) was injured. (One of the things the lawyer used to get me off without jail time.) Oh yea, and I didn't have a decent ride because of the financial hit I took. It took me about 10 years to recover from that one incident. And in today's dollars the lawyer would probably cost at least $15K and the insurance probably double. What the cops didn't know as I had a passenger, my best friend. But we called his wife and she came and got him before the cops got there. I paid for his medical bills, which thankfully weren't that bad because he put most of it on his insurance. His injuries weren't too serious, but he did suffer some serious pain (we went into a cactus and he got the worst of it.).

And in my case, we weren't really on any main streets. We had turned down a very seldom used side street to race. It was 2am and I never thought for a minute we'd have to worry about something like this happening... but that's just it, you never really know.

I don't like the local drags because it's not really any fun. The fun part of street racing is just facing up with someone for a few bucks and "run what you brung." If you win, you're the bad ass (till the next race. :) ) and if you lose, you go home and wrench on the car and try not to let that happen again. :) But at the race track, you don't have any of that. You don't have the thrill of just facing off against someone and I have to admit, I get a thrill out of shutting down some braggart or loudmouth. I also like testing myself against others I respect just for the thrill of the race.

I still drive fast cars and I still drive fast. But I drive with a very different understanding of what can happen. If someone had been killed, I'd not be writing this from my home which I own and I'd not have any nice cars to drive because I'd have been sued and never had a dime for the rest of my life. (Not to mention, I'd have spent a decent number of years in jail.)

Racing is fun and I'll never change, but I really choose the time and place carefully. WAY MORE CAREFULLY. I might do a 1st/2nd gear burst, (not much over the speed limit) but if they want more than that, it's either find a really suitable location, or no race. (BTW, even a 1st gear burst with another car is consider "drag racing" or "exhibition of speed" so you can still get a ticket for that.) In the old days, what we'd do is cruise the local strip and maybe have a few 1st/2nd gear digs with several cars throughout the night and then meet up later at the illegals (in a remote part of town with ZERO traffic) to make a full race with those that still want to.

What I'd like to see is drag strips closer to town and they should be open more often and longer (till 5am on the weekends) and they should have more than just drags. They should have food, sell race gas, maybe a little music over the PA system, etc. And no time clocks, just the christmas tree and win light. I'd even enjoy a road course too! :) I have no objection to helmets, basic safety inspection, and a few dollars entry fee. When I go out to the illegals, we spend more time talking and hanging out than we actually do racing. It's just cool to hang out with friends and like minded people. If we could just move that social gathering to a decent drag strip the problem of street racing would be greatly reduced.

Anyway, I just wanted to give you my experience and I hope you learn from it.

Welcome to the site! Good insight and reminders when it comes to street racing. Most of us remember the scene in the first "Fast and the Furious" where the black Dodge gets destroyed....Racing is not without its risks. Thanks for the stark reminder of what can really happen.

I can respect what you say and I agree with you for the most part. My problem is that I ahve come to realize that I ahve one life. To wait for the track to be oopen blows and on top of that they close for the winter. I try not to get into the street light grand prix thing. If I do I TRY not to take it to ridiculous speeds as I have seen first hand what can result. Still, there remains the fact that people want to race and its hard not to when a good worthy race pulls up next to you at a light. It would be nice if tracks moved closer to EVERYONE and were always open etc. But we all know it will never happen so until then, I shall race on the street, ofcourse I probably still would anyway.

This bone head in a silver stock looking Civic chases me down going 100 mph. He gets in front of me at the next light and I think to myself, Ill jsut stay on his ass and show him how lame he is. At this point I dont know hes turboed. The light turns green and he floors it. I stay behind him and at about 40 I decided Ill calmyly walk around him just to be funny. Well, when I do I find that Im not passing him, infact, it seems hes ever so slightly creeping away. I let off to save myself utter embarasment. So he pulls up next to me at the next light and he says "not bad for 4psi huh". I said yeah not at all but I only had it 1/2 way to the floor. He says "really"!? First time I ever lied about anythign like that. I told him lets go again and he said ok. So I spool up and wasted him. I had a good 10 cars on him by the time I 60 and he was starting to pan out but I didnt see the point in keeping it up being that I had to soon turn to go home. He was pretty impressed and we gave each other a thumbs up and went our seperate ways.
yea i had a close call with a civic once it was all gutted and turbo and everthing

Re: Almost lost to turbo CIVIC

last time i was at the track there was a civic hatch that was just crazy fast. the funniest thing was when he smoked the uptight rich guy in his brand new viper by 2 or 3 cars. :rotf: the guy looked totally disscusted that his $100k car got spanked by a four banger econo box. it was really good for a laugh.
