All together but wont start!***FIXED***

-the RPM stage one is on.
-the timing is set to 0 with the brown wire disconnected, did this by cranking the engine with the timing light hooked up and moved the distributor accordingly.
-The gas tank has 10 gallons of 100 octane.
-I have 34lbs of fuel pressure with the vacuum line disconnected.
-The stock chip and 2 bar map sensor are installed.
-I have some AC delco plugs gapped to .030" in the engine.

The weird thing is when we changed to the stock chip and the 2 bar sensor, (had the Ultimate chip and a 3 bar) add propane to the engine and it started up and ran by itself for a minute, we removed the propane and it ran good by itself but we shut it off because we saw smoke and wanted to make sure nothing was leaking, which nothing was  .

I would like to take the time to say that my truck sounded so clean and smooth. It sat at 1400RPM and wasn't sputtering or anything I hit the gas a little bit it and the engine reacted quick and responsive. It sounded simply amazing, just and smooth rumble.

So now the engine just turns over and doesn't start unless we add propane, when we add propane it just sputters tries to start but wont. later tonight I'm going to get some noid lights from my work and check the operation of the injectors, I think they may be bad/dripping, fouling out the plugs causing it not to start. (one of the few things I haven't replaced in the fuel delivery system) and ideas??

On a side note I have checked a couple other thing listed below.....

-Great oil pressure
-Spark plugs are wet after cranking, fuel pump is priming and operating good.
-150 compression across the board.
-Both ECM fuses are good, I have been pulling the fuel pump one to prevent fludding the engine.
I have checked much more stuff but I don't remember right now......

Ya, it's got a Turbo

Re: All together but wont start! HELP!

Sounds to me like your fuel pressure is too low. Should it not be closer to 40+ with the vac line disconnect?

Do you get CEL with the key on?? Im thinking ignition module but I would ground a spark plug and crank the motor over and verify your getting spark

Sean,

Don't know inj size. If stock it will run at 30#. At least mine will. Double check spark. Maybe something got bumped while reinstalling the 3bar. Make sure dist is tight. It's easy to not have the hold down fork up on the dist. No pops, no nothing, though, tells me it's spark. But bring up FB a bit (40#) and check fuel pressure WHILE cranking.

Spark (at the right time) + fuel (something close to correct ratio) + compression (which you have) = engine run. Usually...;)

Keep us posted.

Awesome, glad to hear it's all together. Sux to hear you've got maybe a couple of wrinkles to work out. I'm sure i'ts no bigge.

RPM stage one??? Does this mean you have a waller turbo for me????

No CEL when I turn the key to the on position.....
Fuel pressure while cranking is 38Lbs...
I have spark at the plugs...

Re: All together but wont start! HELP!

Does the ECM cut out fuel or spark if we lose oil pressure? Do you have oil press?
Do you have a little bit of spark or a lot of spark? Take a plug wire loose at the distributor and hold the wire about 3 inches from the distributor... spark should jump across that gap - it did to me when I was holding it with my bare hand :D

Re: All together but wont start! HELP!

okay so after testing the power and ground to the ECM and hitting the ECM the CEL came on for a little bit so we tried starting the engine and it fired up quick and purred like a kitten. so I have a ECM problem, the new one will be here in about 10 minutes, I'll keep you guy posted.

ya it was a computer issue, cause now it starts every time, but I have code 43.....does anyone know where the ESCM is located? I have read that it is in the Chip but I don't want to believe that.....

It's located in the back by the distributor... a pita to get to if I remember right

Re: All together but wont start! HELP!

ESC is electronic Spark Control AKA knock sensor. Not sure what ESCM is. Manual refers to ESCS, electronic spark control system. The knock sensor signal goes to the ECM so maybe yur mixing the two? HTH

Re: All together but wont start! HELP!

Don I think your right and I was getting those confused. what doesn't make sense is that the knock sensor is brand new, and the computer is brand new.... also I don't know if it is because I have the Comp 412 cam or because the rings haven't seated fully or what, but when warming up the truck the idle is nice for a while then drops 100 RPM and the IAC caught it and throws is up 100 over idle speen then it falls and will surge a little then settle out to the nice idle again. I'm thinking vacuum leak but if I still have a CEL the two problems coule be related.....I'm trying to get this thing smogged so I can be at the track this wednesday. wish me luck!

Re: All together but wont start! HELP!

Code 43 is knock sensor. The ECm will store a code 43 if there is an open or short in the circuit. Also if ALL of the following occur for more than 5 secs, per my manual:

Coolant temp over 90*C (194* F)
MAT over 0*C (32*F)
High engine load based on MAP and rpm
Voltage on knock sensor circuit goes above 3.5v or below 1,5v

HTH

Did you remove the ecm b fuse for a few minutes and allow the truck to relearn?

also you mention the knock sensor is new... did you torque to spec?

Which is crazy cause I didn't even drive it when I got the CEL light. so I had never gotten under any load......

I may have over tightened the Knock sensor....would this cause this problem? I didn't think to tighten it to spec, I didn't think it woulod matter...

Re: All together but wont start! HELP!

okay I may be onto something. using this link I found that the ESC is on the factory chip. and since I had the KB chip in my truck the one day I drove it I didn't have a CEL then. since then I have done all that is in my project page and put the Stock chip (that came with the truck) back in. I'm guessing the stock chip's ESC portion is bad causing the computer to set Code 43 for the knock sensor.......I'll see on my lunch break if I can comfirm this..

Re: All together but wont start! HELP!

I suspect that the knock sensor needs to be torqued correctly. I also have heard that you have to be careful with using sealant. Somewhere I heard that a new one comes with the correct stuff on it.
