Alky Injection..

I have been thinking about putting Alcohol Injection on my Typhoon. But I have been told that I need to get an ecu upgrade and a 3 bar map setup.... Can anyone explain why I need this extra stuff?
Thanks, Don

Re: Alky Injection..

The guys running 20+ pounds (takes a 3 bar to get up here) of boost on pump gas need the extra that Alky Injection gives them. There are other ways to keep the knock down but Alky is good.

You don’t have to have a 3 bar to use Alky Injection.

My opinion is that in the summer, Alky will help all engines under hard acceleration.

Again, my opinion.

Re: Alky Injection..

All I am really trying to do is run no more than 20psi. 17-20 is all I want.. (for now)lol

Re: Alky Injection..

If you buy the kit from www.alkycontrol.com it requires a 3 Bar Map to work properly. That is probably why you are heard that you need a 3 Bar Map. It is one of the good kits out there.

Re: Alky Injection..

OK a 3 bar map and some tuning. But I have heard that with tuning the ecu, sometimes things are eliminated or dont work properly. Thats my only concern

What do you meant by that?

Re: Alky Injection..

I have seen a few threads where people were complaining about the knock sensor being disabled or the ecu wont retard timing... I dont want any issues like that.

Ah, that isn't that big of a deal. That is an easy fix in the chip. More than likily the knock retard was set to 0 degrees. Just change that and it is working again. Just search the forums, read some of the stickies in this forum on tuning and then ask questions when you can't find an answer. Make small changes and see what they do. Like play with Idle RPM and see how it works. That is the best way to learn.

Re: Alky Injection..

Again, If you want to get over 15 pounds of boost, you'll have to go to a 3 bar MAP. It's just physics.

If your not going for more boost, just looking for alot cooler intake temps and don't want to go up to a 3bar map and custom chip then i'd suggest devilsown.. they sell a 2bar setup.. I have there 3bar setup and haven't had any problems with it so far

Re: Alky Injection..

The alky control kit doesn't need a 3Bar Map...I'm 99% certain.

It's designed to be operable from 1.7-5.0v. On a 3Bar that's about 0psi. A 2Bar is still a 0-5v sensor but 1.7v is approximately -6psi. The Turn-On need only be adjusted to just over 2.5v for the same operation.

Again, somebody correct me if I'm wrong.

Call me nuts, but I think I'll run the 2Bar Map with the alkycontrol and two stock boost solenoids so I can bleed off pressure up to about 17psi, using the Meth/Alky to keep the AFR in check. The Alky will close the boost solenoid if it's out of liquid.
