AIR CARE/SMOG IN VANCOUVER B.C.

I was thinking of moving to Van b.c. and need air care info. I have a tyclone with extreme mods. I have a Mccoy super motor,Heads, cam, bored, 50# injectors, and a atr 920 cfm turbo, down pipe, headers. Do you think I would have problems? I just realized that, I would probably have problems anywhere I go with any type of smog laws. I guess any info would do. Thanks

Woohoo! Another SyTy in BC (or at least quasi-SyTy)

Anyway, what year is your Tyclone? The older the better when it comes to Aircare, as emissions are less stringent for older vehicles. With the setup you mentioned, you will most likely run into some problems getting it past Aircare. Methol Hydrate may help you (its worked for a friend's mod'ed V8 ) but I'm not sure how it will affect a turbo'd engine (friend said it runs REALLY hot with that stuff)

My Sy passed with flying colours, but then again its completely stock. If you're AWD or 4wd, then there's a special lane for you (sure took alot of convincing for them to finally realize my little black 'low-rider' spins all 4 wheels)

If you dont pass, you can get a conditional pass (you have to spend $200 at a certified shop trying to get it fixed, then if it fails again, you can get the pass) but it's only good once I believe.

ARe you moving to Vancouver specifically? Or possibly somewhere else in BC? If you move to Vancouver Island or to somewhere outside of the Fraser Valley. then there's no Aircare. (or if you have any family in BC outside of the valley, you may be able to insure the vehicle using their address and skip out on Aircare, but that could be a bit of a hassle.

Anyway, hope this helps and if you do move up this way, let me know. Its always good to talk to fellow SyTy'ers.

Great info. Yeah, I am all wheel drive and I do plan on running methenal too. I can probably tune it to pass the breather test (i think, if I just lean it out and put the BG 50# on valet mode, I should be ok.) I am concerned about the visual test. I don't pass the visual test here in California. You need a smog O.E number on any aftermarket part. Almost every part in my truck is modified and maybe one part has a O.E. number. Is the test just a sniff test or is it a visual as well. My wife is from Vancouver and she is not liking what is going on with our government, (nor am I) and wants to move back. I told her I would think about it. If Vancouver Island (victoria) does not have smog, maybe we will consider that. Thank you for the info. Now if I can just get usetoo 14.5% tax. :x

You get used to 14.5%. LOL.

As for the test, dont worry about visual. You'll see when you get up here, the people they hire to staff these facilities usually would be better suited to asking if you'd like fries with your diner. Just tell them it's a modified Blazer and they'll be like "wha's a blazer?" j/k.

Seriously though, there's two tests, one an idle test, the other a driving test (between 40 and 50kph) They put a tube onto your tail pipe and take the readings while they run the vehicle on rollers (this is why you need to go to the left-lane (AWD/Full-time 4WD and specialty vehicles)) They SOMETIMES look under your hood but not always and if you were to tell them its all stock, they prob wouldnt have a clue otherwise. I dont think Aircare is ANYWHERE close to being as stringent as Cali, if you can pass there, you can prob pass here.

Hope eveything works out for ya. cheers
