Re: Air box

remember engineers dont have it like they did in the pre emissions days

now they are mandated buy these rules

1- emissions
2- crash
3- cost
4 appearance
5-performance

so by reusing as much as possible they were able to meet the first 3 mandates and adding the crossover tube meet the 4th and 5th

Re: Air box

Wow I had no idea there was so much study and info on air boxes...lol. Thanks for the info guy's. So am I understanding you right that the way I have mine just coming off the cross tube and hanging there in front of the ABS and next to the oil filter that I'm hurting it more then improving it?

You get some cold air there because the airbox hole is in the core support.

Re: Air box

I am planning on a turbo blanket and EGR delete when I have an extra $150 to blow. I'm guessing from what I have read here, that this should make a considerable difference in my underhood temps to go with my open filter. I am glad I got rid of my crossover tube...

Re: Air box

a full shield would work better, and some sort of insulation would be great but im still a firm beliver that a shorter air intake path will work more efficient , I mostly moved the filter on the ty for safety issues

x2

I'm glad I don't have to worry about a chewed up turbo because of that crossover tube. Not to mention, the turbo sounds cool now when I drive:tup:

Re: Air box

I did it with the stock orange elbow and a little help from Pancakes. It's tight, but working good and looks great. Doesn't looked "hacked" at all....

I have no idea what the firewall # is. I thought something from production? I'm unsure though. The carfax is clean so I don't think it from any collision shop. But I could always be wrong...

The decal is a 134a retro fit sticker. Thanks for reminding me to peel it off.
