Added some weight to the SY. W/pics

Here are some pics of my stereo install, nothing is complete yet just some current pics.

Build includes in dash DVD player, rear view camera, a pair of soundstream tarantula 6.5 components, a 12in Tarantula dvc sub, 3 16-mc300 memphis amps (1 stereo to the components, 2 bridged mono one for each voice coil of the sub), and a Kinetik 2000 power cell. I may add in a pre amp/eq to adjust the components but for now will leave that duty to the head unit. Box is ported from the bed to the cab via a large port. The box in the pics is temporary, i plan on making a sweet fiberglass enclosure/amp rack sometime in the near future, but for now it was much easier to make a box to spec out of 3/4 mdf.

I should have the whole thing wired tonight and rocking out. The speaker pods i built for the kick panels are tiny :rotf: but i can live with them, the still need to be covered with black suede or carpet to finish them off. BTW 6.5's are about the max for kicks in these trucks.

All factory speaker locations are vacant, only the 6.5's and 12 to handle the 1000+ watts! Now all i need to do is find that North Mississippi Alstars Cd and i will be rock'n

Let me know what you guys think.

Nice. Should sound sweet when youre done. Ill never forget the time I went to a stereo shop my friend worked at when he was doing a bed box through to cab, quite a bit bigger though, and he turned it up. The S10 had a bed cover(hard) on it and he just opened the windows and cranked it up. I could feel air coming out of there like it was a fan set on high, I was standing abotu 6' away and ears were vibrating so bad I had to be a puss and cover up, he was wearing those airplane ear muffs

im hoping to make the box spead across the entire width of the front of the bed so it doesnt have to stick so far rearward with the amps flushed in and probably painted to match the outside of the truck, not sure ont he finish yet.

And yes its a bit heavy, i didnt weight it but i wouold guess with sub/amps and all the box is around 100 lbs.

Ive had bigger stereos just doing a minimal one here, but it should still move a lot of air, the sub alone will have over 1000 watts of power on tap, doubt i set the gains high enough for the sub to ever see it though, i had this same box and sub in my civic as a test vehicle with just under 400 watts to it and it was rockn, more than double the power now and far better quailty amps to push it, the 6.5s would probably done enough on their own, but when is there ever enough BASSSSS!?

Truckless. For now.
Re: Added some weight to the SY. W/pics

Looking good! Wish I had time and money to get back into stereo stuff. I was never that serious, but I did like to add subs/amps, and replace factory speaker in my autos.

Though, I do have to say, a Premier deck pushing the factory Bose stuff in our Volvo sounds pretty darn good. all it really needs is 2 10"s in the trunk. :D

can't wait to see yours finished.

Not retarded, approx 15"x10" hole cut in both the bed and cab. It has a rubber boot that completely seals the cab to the bed, similar to what you would use for truck caps when the windows are removed and and made into a passthru. The truck has been wrecked, lots of shaving, and other mods, i figured this couldnt hurt the value of my Sy with all the other things ive doen to it. I will be putting a cage in it this year so any weakness in the rear cab wall will be fixed with the cage.

Yup, that's how you have "big bass when you have no space (in the cab)"

i was gonna say you should be shot for cutting a hole in a sy cab, but..... if it has been wrecked, i can understand.

better screw that puppy down so the boost launches dont rip it out, and make it a flying projectile.

an a better note... nice setup....you are a good fabricator!

I know some of you think its silly to cut up a sy or drill holes here and there, but like i said it is nowhere near stock,

I sure miss the days of badass stereos. I found some new Pioneer 10s in boxes for $250 that fit right behind the seats w/o losing any clicks. I need my seat all the way back also. I'll get some pics & model # once I get them.Originally I wanted & almost had a TY purchased specifically for stereo usage. I've installed in & managed a car stereo store. I'm glad you clarified the cutting through the cab/bed. I have never wanted to do that with mine. I had thought about purchasing another cab back & bed or an extended cab just for cutting purposes. I guess I'll just pick these up & save up for a TY. :)

Here's some pics of my "old" stereo car.
