Add another one to the graveyard

The other night, around 10:00 pm, my ty got plowed. Got nailed making a left hand turn. I doubt that this is going to "just buff right out."

every time I look at it I see more wrong with it. The passnger door was pinched, passnger fender is gone, cladding, grill, bumper support, radatior is pushed back, aux cooler is bent, trans cooler, hid headlamp, hood, winshield is cracked. drivers fender doesn't line up right, the wheel appears to be pushed back, the ac accumulator its bent all to hell, ac lines torn, water lines to turbo ripped, the a/c compressor and alternator started to eat into the fan shroud, front frame dammage. To top it off the motor appears pushed back a couple of inches.

Thank god some how I wasn't killed, as I had a huge home theater sub in the back that flew forward, hit the roof (ripped the headliner in 2 places, and dented the roof, messed up some paint, hit the center console, & broke the passenger side seat).

Of course progressive doesn't want to total it, as the adjuster told me he was only at about 7800$ worth of dammage. I don't think he saw that the motor was pushed back, any of the crap with the a/c, or the possible turbo dammage.

At this point the truck is so screwed up I don't even think I want it saved, as I don't think it will ever be right again. still debating if I want another one or not.

I am sure I speak for all of us when I say we are here for ya. Make sure to point out those things that you notice on on your truck to the adjuster, dont get screwed over. :2cents:

#1 Glad you're alright.

#2 Take your truck to three different stealerships for the repair quotes. That's one sure fire way to get what it's worth out of it.

Re: Add another one to the graveyard

Breaks my heart to hear what happend to ya bro:cry: , and like everyone has said so far you walked away from it alive!!!!! As far as the TY goes there are others out there if thats the way you want to go, but at the same time you get a "do over" as far as a new project goes. Kinda look at it as the glass is half full....

Glad to hear your OK, sorry about the loss. Make sure once you go to get it repaired that you go over it with a microscope, if they fix it and then you find something else its soooo hard to get fixed, trust me, been there.

Perhaps you can keep the salvage and transplant into a Sy?

Re: Add another one to the graveyard

if there is frame damage its likely that theyll total the truck. like they said more estimates and make him aware of all the other things you found.

I hate reading these threads and hate saying this even more. It just sounds cold to me....

"Even if they total it, fight to get the truck back. We need the parts!"

I sincerely feel for you and the Ty. It could have been alot worse....

Glad you are ok. You can always BUY another. As mentioned above keep the parts if you can.

Re: Add another one to the graveyard

I bet your sore though :(
We used to get cars like this all the time when I worked for Riley's Autobody. Actually had one come in that was an obvious total. Insurance company didn't even ask Al anything. Just dropped the car off. About 8:30 that morning ANOTHER truck comes in with the front half chopped off of another similar car. The insurance company wanted us to cut the front half off of one car and piece the other junk car onto it.....obviously Al got a kick out of the request. He charged the insurance company lot rent for taking up so much room in the storage yard and told them to come get the two totalled junk piles they left at his shop without permission.
A frame swap might not be such a bad idea. Maybe get a 2 door blazer frame from Nevada or other dry state. The fenders and such are nothing to replace. The frame is the issue. There is a place Al used to straighten frames. They did outstanding work. However it is REALLY expensive if you start cutting and welding frame members.

Re: Add another one to the graveyard

Been in several accidents, never once been sore the next day. This one kicked my ass, as I was fine the night of but my back hurt the next day. Good think I'm a stereo installer, and I can't do shit if my back is ****ed up.

I've thought about the frame swap, or getting into a SY. I just don't know at this point.

I do have pictures, but nobody want to upload them for me lately (tried smag, couln't remember my pass word to turbo time gallery, one of my other friends said he would host them but hasen't) if theres some one out there that can host them I have 50+ pics.

As far as taking it to other shops, its not running right now so I has to be towed on a flat bed. I've already had it towed from my house to a progressive approved shop so they can tear into it, and give me a real quote instead of the half assed quote the progressive guy gave me at my house. I could see his butthole pucker when he found out the front bumper cladding + support were 1700$. I don't know if progressive will pay for it to be towed some where else, for another quote.
