accel 300+ with msd coil?

truck it!
I finally received and installed the accel 300+ ignition and coil on my truck. As I posted in an earlier thread, my MSD digital 6 ceased to function after a very short time, and I was fed-up with dealing the MSD issues, so I decided to try some alternatives.
The 300+ and coil did seem to cure the high-boost flame-out that I was having, but the truck seems to run worse at low RPM and boost. I get some low-mid RPM skipping that I didnt have with the full MSD setup (nor did I have it with just the MSD coil, or the stock coil.)
I tried running just the Accel coil without the 300+ box, and it breaks-up at anything over 15 PSI, where just the MSD coil will allow at least 21 PSI. It seems the MSD coil is much better than the accel one in this configuration.
So, I am wanting to try the MSD coil with the Accel 300+ control box. My question is whether or not anyone has tried this setup. The Accel harness is a different design than the MSD digital-6 one was, and Im wondering if that is going to cause the MSD coil to operate disfunctionally. The Accel harness uses a connector which replaces the power plug that goes into the distributor with one that comes from the control box, and the power-out connector that normally comes fromt the coil is left disconnected. The MSD harness uses the stock power connector to the distributor, and uses the stock output connector from the coil. My concern is that possibly the Accel and MSD coils may be a different design, and that it might cause problems with the coil or the control box.
Anyway, if anyone has experience with this setup, I would appreciate hearing it.

You should be able to just unplug one coil and plug the other in fine. Assuming you have 2 stock style coils. I had a replacement msd and the replacement accel coil and swapped them back and forth. i didnt notice any differences. Also, did you open up the accel box and check all of the dip switch settings and make sure they are correct for your truck?

X2 on the switch settings. We have swapped all different types of coils around on the MSD and Accel boxes with no problems. Check all your connections especially the grounds! The grounds are just as important as any other connection and many of the problems we have found (and repaired) with aftermarket Ign. systems are ground related, even on the factory "plug N' play" set ups. Any car over several years old is subject to this type of problem.

Thanks. I did set the DIP switch setting before installing. It seems that this accel coil is simply not as powerful as the MSD one. I was just wondering if the accel coil might somehow be optimized for using the control box, since they did come together as a kit. Im going to install the MSD coil tomorrow and give that a shot. Im hoping for good results, given how well the MSD coil works, even without the digital 6.
Its too bad that the MSD products dont last long...they sure seem to work the best. Id like to keep using them, but they are so unrealiable.

what gap are your plugs, and where are you mounting the ignition box? heat and vibration will lead to an early death.
