Re: AC problem help

My Ty is converted to R134 and I literally just fixed this today... you're likely out of freon.

If you still have the old R12 system... time to open thy wallet. Even if you can find a shop that still has R12 freon and is willing to recharge your system, you're gonna pay roughly $85/lb err whatever the measurement is... and if you're blowing hot air, your gonna need at least 3lbs. Better to just take it in the tailpipe and change the system over to R134 (even though it doesn't blow as cold IMO), long term you'll spend less $$$.

But... before you go wasting money on anything, check the fuses, and the harness on the condenser first.

A 134 retrofit is a good idea, first you need to decide is if your going to do the work yourself. A system retrofit isn't a easy job for a first timer diy mechanic. You will need a set of gauges and a vacuum pump for starters

Re: AC problem help

Here's what happened with me. I volunteer at the local J.C. During that I ended up taking to the air conditioning instructor. They are always looking for vehicles to work on as instruction for the kids. We agreed on a time and the kids (and, in effect, the school) did it for free. Only had to buy the adapters. I bought both sets labeled for GM and was glad I did. Used one adapter from each kit. They had the latest SnapOn machine which does the conversion with the push of a few buttons. It was fun seeing all the kids wrapped around the truck as they, and the instructor of course, did the work.

So what you might do is swing by your local HS or JC automotive department just ask around. Good luck.
