It runs; just not right!
I just wanted to share an easy way to delete the AC from your syty while cleaning up the pass. side of the engine.

Basically all you need is a pulley off of a 97 GMC jimmy, a 200 amp alternator and a 53" goodyear gatorback belt (6PK1345). You just drill two holes in the accessory bracket (one for the bolt and one for the nipple) and mount the tension pulley, install your 200 amp alternator and put on the belt. I have not had any problems with this set up.

Very nice setup :cool:! Now there as no less than four methods to completely deleted the AC for the folks who decided that they can live without it.

Im impressed. Thats looks very good and seems easy. I'd love to say it sucks because you have to spend $250 but I guess you can't go wrong with a 200 amp ALT right?

Shouldn't cost that much if you use all boneyard parts.

I can get a 126 Amp OEM CS-144 (GM Large case) alternator at the pick-n-pull for $8.

You just need a large frame alternator because a smaller frame needs a belt length of about 51 3/4" due to pulley location, which they do not make in a gatorback (they may in some other brand thou I just did not try to look). Like the above individual mentioned he can obtain one for 8 bucks at the pick n pull so it does not have to be the 200 amp like I purchased (but 200amp makes a nice electrical system addition).

If you expand the first photo above you will notice a circle just to the left of the bolt with a 33 stamped on it. This is the nipple that keeps the pulley secure (otherwise it would just spin on the bolt).

I have not had any problems yet with this set up as the belt comes in contact with about a third of the circumference of the water pump pulley. I have watched the set up while checking to see if the timing was changing at 4500 and I did not notice anything strange at that rpm. Also this is with a used pulley and no belt dressing too so if you notice slippage you can try these, but I have yet to need them.

anyone that wants to do this with the small anternator

autozone has the 53.74in belt

538k6 (53.8in 6 rib) is WAY short for the normal alternator

91 s10 ps pump
91 s10 crank pully
90s 120a alternator ( i think)

is there any load on the tension er

whats the diameter of the pully on the alt?

Exactly what alternator do you have? Is it one of the ones below?

Getting the right length belt is easier than falling in love if you have a measuring tape like tailors use. Just route it across the pulleys and measure the length taking into account tension applied by the tensioner that you are using.

So I got ambitious tonight and did this mod. It's actually fairly easy and went smoothly. I measured out a belt size and figured roughly 56" or maybe a little less. I'm going to pick up a belt tomorrow and I'll report back with what I find :tup:

The CS-144 looks like the frame of the one I am using with the stated belt.
