AC compressor routing question PICS ADDED

Started re-installing my AC (see my other post in What did you do to your SyTy today). The question is with the larger turbo and using a cobra ell making a 90* directly toward the right fender it, the cobra ell, is in the way of the compressor line to the condenser.

After writing this I did a little internet searching and I suspect I can buy the correct fitting, a length of hose and build a custom setup.

I'll let you know how it goes.

I had this exact same issue. I ended up bending the line a little bit so that it would run between the elbow and the turbo.

Thanks, that's kinda where I headed with this. I'm also gonna go by a local industrial hose store and see if they might be able to change that lower fitting. I'll post what I end up with.

Mine also runs between the cobra elbow and the turbo. It was like that when I got the truck, so I assume it is just bent a little for clearance.

So far, with bending it still doesn't fit. I'm at the point where I could Force it to fit but I'm uncomfortable doing that.

If either of you guys want, maybe take a closer photo chowing a bit more detail. Meantime before I go further I'm gonna check with a local industrial hose dealer. Otherewise there are a number of sites that will provide various hose kits.

Thanks!

Re: AC compressor routing question

Thanks Dave. My current idea, not even an actual plan yet, is to make a new hose assembly. Use the correct condenser-to-hose fitting at the condenser then a section of new hose up to the original alum tube coming off the compressor. Next is to see if this can be done locally or will I have to order a kit or parts. The research I've done indicated that everything is available. Just need to confirm sizes etc.

Re: AC compressor routing question

This is gonna work. What I did was to cut the ferule and remove the stock hose from the Sy maianfold. Got a 45* fitting for the condenser and routed hose behind and then over the air filter to the manifold. This will make sense when I post pics. Turns out I can get the hose, fitting and the crimping done at shop literally around the corner from where I park the truck. Little place called Cotati Speed Shop. Some of you may have heard of it.

And, since I'm bragging (something I don't usually do) if you know anything about Flatheads you may have heard of this guy. He's just up the road a few miles.

Just a couple of the locals who are well known.

Close fit but there is clearance. Did not have to move turbo to install bracket.

Finished.

What I'm missing, oddly, is the bracket supporting the bottom of the accumulator. (Not receiver dryer, I just learned recently.) Why I have my old accumulator and not that bracket is irritating. Why didn't I keep them together when I took it apart?

I didn't get the new hose assembly back in time for my free refill at the JC. Will have to wait a week to see if it all works. The free refill, and helping the kids in the AC class, is the reason I did all this. Otherwise I wouldn't have bothered.
