ABS light on steady...Help!

I got the dreaded ABS light which is similar to the blue screen of death in windows. I did not do any brake work or anything like that.
It just stayed on after I started the truck today. Now it will stay on continuosly every time I start the engine.
The brakes work fine. No change in brake performance detected.
I probably do not have abs brakes now. Pedal brake feel is the same as prior to the ABS light coming on.

Anyone experienced this? I have serched the archives but have come up epmty. The SY supplement has no info about it either.

Please let me know.

Thanks,
Ernest

Ok I was able to find the page that had the brake codes on it. I jumped A and H to get the brake codes. I get codes 14 and 45. I do not know why it would flash code 14 but I am guessing its the initiating sequence before it displayes the codes. Code 45 says to check grounds or the EHCU valve may need to be replaced according to this page http://www.georgiasyty.com/aldl.htm

Any additional information about this will be helpful.

Thanks,
Ernest

Ok I have reset the brake codes and now the abs light does not come on any more. I ran the engine and applied the brakes but the light remains off for now. So I may have needed to just reset the codes.

I will repost if the light come on again.

Is this something that happens from time to time? What can cause this.

Thanks
Ernest

Disconnect your ABS. It sucks. Feels like you're trying to stop the truck on a big pile of fresh, warm dog shit...(could also be read 'GM shit').

Gravity bleed your brakes two or three times. This will keep the ABS and BRAKE lights from coming on again...at least it did on mine. Couldn't believe that changing the fluid fixed what seemed like a mechanical problem but it did. Give it a try.

Mrweelr what do you mean by "gravity bleed your brakes"? I thought the way to bleed the brakes was to push the brake down , open the bleed screw, close the bleed screw and release the pedal. then repeat until clean fluid comes out and no air bubbles.

Ty0279 why would it be wise to disconnect the ABS.? Other then the pedal vibrating under your foot it stops the vehicle straight.
What is the advantage of disconnecting the ABS.?

THank you for your replies.

Code 14 is that the diagnosis works
#41 through 66=if the code returns, replace the EHCU .Not that good
This comes from the service manual.........

What I did was remove the bleeder screws completely from all four corners and slowly pumped the fluid out until the master was empty. Then I fill the reservoir again and let the fluid run out until it was empty again. The idea is to flush out all of the old contaminated fluid and replace with something good like Valvoline or Castrol high-temp fluid. I had to bleed my brakes three or four times to get all of the crap out, no joke. Haven't seen any ABS or brake lights since :D

mrweelr thanks for the info.

nightdiver I got the codes from here http://www.georgiasyty.com/aldl.htm The code 14 you mention is it from the engine or brake codes? According to this page code 14 of the engine codes is Coolant Sensor - High Temp and there is no code 14 for the brake codes.

So far my truck has not turned on the abs light after the reset.

Thanks for all your help :)

Code 14 is for the brakes since you connect the ground to the abs ecm
It means that the diagnostic sircuit works
Our abs have a builtin ecm
