Re: ABS Delete Kit - Catchup Run
Got mine, Mike, Thanks.... and just in time, too!
I installed LS1 rear discs recently, and in the process damaged my right rear ABS sensor. So, I've been driving it with the 'anti-lock' light lit and no ABS until I can get around to installing a replacement sensor (actually a late-model sensor, which is much smaller... but that's another story, ur, thread). I bought Mikes kit just in case my replcement ABS sensor idea doesn't pan out.
On my way to work, I'm pulling up behind a car at a redlight when the abs starts pulsing the brake pedal, I glance down and the 'anti lock' light is OFF, and our wonderful ABS is about to cause me to rear-end this unsuspecting person in front of me! Just in the nick of time, the 'anti-lock' light comes ON, the pulsing stops, and normal braking restored in time for me to stop short of a collision.
Apparently my ABS started getting just enough signal from the damaged sensor to try and operate, but the signal was weak or intermittent so it also decided to engage the ABS.
I can't think of a better demostration of how ineffective our (or at least MY) ABS is. I was on dry, smooth pavement, and the instant the ABS kicked on I could feel the deceleration forces drop dramatically. The ABS turned a routine stop into a heart-stopper. Guess I won't be needing that late-model sensor after all....
