A2A intercooler or not?

Hello. I recently bought Sy #1985 as a work in progress project. The previous owner was building a custom air to water intercooler set up, with pump and tank in the bed, water heat exchanger behind grill, and air charger where the stock lower was installed. However, I'm debating whether I should finish this install or go with a FMIC. Here is a very vague list of what the previous owner had done to the truck.

- 60mm turbo ( so I'm told. All I see is A/R .60 on comp.)
-ATR headers with crossover and external waste gate on mid pipe
-aftermarket camshaft. Not sure which one
- ported stock heads with 1.6 roller rockers
-FAST XFI stand alone fuel system with MSD-6al
-twin 58mm throttle body.

So any thoughts? Stick with this custom air to water or do a custom FMIC?

Tough Decision

My thoughts are if the intercooler system is working now, why change it? Most guys go to the air to air for space issues with bigger turbo's. There are many guys running w2a running strong. I would stay where you are and get it running well then decide if you want to change it. Then the process starts over again!

Welcome to the board!

Sounds like alot of work and weight to me! I would just run a fmic! But what do I no? Take a look at my stock times with a fmic and stock engine similar to yours!

Re: A2A intercooler or not?

I've been thinking about just finishing it. But the FMIC would also look cleaner. Also, as of right now, I have about 4.5in of ground clearance with the massive lower intercooler installed. This worries me a bit.
However, I'm just wondering if, with the other modifications, will I have any issues with a FMIC?

Put in an A2A and then never ever think about it again. Or keep the W2A and deal with all this extra crap and weight and air bubbles and yada yada.

VADER - You are running the FAST XFI on a Sy? How was the install and tuning process?

A quality FMIC will not disappoint you at all. I would choose that over a W2A system all day long.

I think I put that on back in 2007 or so. Wasn't to bad, it comes with a harness for the Sy/Ty's. As for the tuner goes, Cal has done a phenomenal job tuning mine. Although, I believe more people on the board use Big stuff 3. I still like FAST better. I have a few other cars with FAST so it's probably what I'm used to using.

This link is for my thread for the latest build on Syclone #380. You'll see my front mount on that one. A few more tweaks since the dyno pulls and I'll see what it does, but signature 1/4 mile time is way out of date. Other Sy in the signature has the stock w2a system.

In regards to your thread. Go with what you like, but consider what you are planning on doing with it short and long term. Both systems can be used in high horsepower applications or in street setups. However, I think all Sy Ty owners would agree, bubbles kinks and air pockets are the horrors of ownership.
