I have my TY. listed on Ebay right now & A promotions company sent me A message that they want to do A photo shoot on my Ty. I told them sure. Well here's what they wrote me.

Hello,
I work for a promotion company, Formal Promotions, and we are doing a series of photo shoots with exceptional cars throughout the decades. I was wondering if you would be interested in meeting us and sticking around so we could take some pictures with your Typhoon before you sell it. We are in Wyandotte so the drive would not be far. The car would be featured on cards with a model in nineties attire. The cards will be passed out at the Woodward Dream Cruise and have your name, along with information about the Typhoon on the back. We would also give you a large poster of the featured photograph. Hopefully, we can work together.
Thank you,
Erin

I'm sure this is legit, but I got one of these years ago (can't remember what vehicle) and it turned out to be a bit of a scam because they wanted to come out, take photos, and charge me. Never happened, jus sayin'....

same thing happen with my buddies zr1 it wasn't on eBay but on CL was contacted with an opportunity to take professional pictures with no obligation to buy anything, when they arrived the person that came was different then the original contact, that person told him they take professional pictures of show cars, and offer picture packages and optional magazine spreads. i remember this story about 2 years ago. never thought about it till now. if your deal is legit, awesome just be wise and don't waste your own time! good luck and cant wait to see what happened.

you get paid?

They're not interested in promoting your truck without you paying for that service.

You all obviously didn't read his post....They are looking to put together something to sell at Woodward, they aren't looking to promote his ride and only his ride specifically. I'm betting on a baseball card kind of deal, only for cars. They would want to keep costs down since they probably are just starting this idea and don't know if it will sell, they don't want to pay to photo different cars so they will offer to provide the owners of them with copies in return for modeling. It's a help us/we'll give you free photos kind of thing, standard offer for most photographers. Being a new to the business photog myself, I often offer this to my "subjects". I don't have the cash, so I offer prints in order to get what I need.

Although the oposite can also be true, some less professional photog's would use that "offer" then use the ol' bait and switch routine.

I've also worked at a photo studio that offered a free photo then tried to sell you all the others.

I've also sold a great many things on Ebay, and I've found that some people ask sellers questions just to get their email so they can spam.

All these scenarios can be true. Jumping right to "scam, and only can be a scam" is a little.....I dunno, I'm not gonna call names and start a fight...I just don't understand how people can read a post and get completely turned around and think someone said something they actually didnt when it's written in plain english :dunno:

Since you're pretty new, let me tell you how it works 'round here. We watch each other's backs and if someone posts about an experience VERY similar to one we've had, and ours turned out bad, your damn right we "jump" to scam or whatever the end result of our experience was. We were just making sure he has his guard up and is ready for any sharks that might show up. I'm sure he appreciates the information and will proceed cautiously.

If you've been on here long enough, you'll see this scenario play out time and time again, especially when specifically about Sys and Tys. So stick around and maybe someday you'll benefit from our good will.

I agree as well, even when things are legit its good to have other people's optimism, never know if your having an off day and just not reading something for what it really is. just good to know someone looks out for you legit or not. in this case i hope its legit, that would be a very cool opportunity for him!

I really don't think him being "new" has anything to do with his response.

People who have not been here a long time don't realize that this forum is a little different from most. So newbies will think that giving the other side to a potential situation is rude, pestimistic, or inappropriate. That couldn't be further from the truth and people who have been here for a while figure it out.
