I have a 97'olds bravada with the smarttrak transfer case. The drive line started making a noise like the front cv axles were going bad when excellerated.Klunning sounds, for lack of a better definition.Any way,I have a friend that is a certified gm tech.He has his own shop an offered to help me disassemble the transfer case(he has seen this problem at the dealership he worked at before)saying it was the drum that controls the front shaft. He told me that they were designed to give a little under hard excelleationso you would not destroy the u-joints.This let to call the dealer to get the replacement drum, which cost around $700-$800.It was on back order for who knew how long.I could not wait pending it was winter. He thought he could have it welded(I dont know where or how),that didnt help.So heres the question does any one make that replacement drum that is stronger, or a better awd transfer case i can use.I cant seespending the money to do this again in 100,000 miles.Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
