99 S10 syclone swap

New to the boards...was directed here from s-seriesforum.com after i asked this question, I did a search, and there were so many threads unrelated to what I wanted to ask so I'm just gonna ask.

I have a 99 S-10 4cylinder 5-speed, at first I wanted to turbocharge that, seeing how hard that may be and how high the compression ratio's were and how crappy the horsepower gain would be from doing that...i started looking into the syclone or typhoon swap.

questions are:

Has the motor and awd tranny ever been swapped into my model or similar model successfully that you know of?

How difficult was it to do?

How much did it cost to do?

Where would it be easiest and cheapest to find the motor?

both have been done...there's a blue four-banger that i remember seeing on one of the boards...in fact he posts here from time to time...your going to have to search it out though...as for the syclone swap, a guy here did that as well...he claimed it was the easiest swap he had ever done...but he adapted the syclone drivetrain (frame and all) to the newer gen body...still a ton of work...if you find his post, you'll notice his pics were taken down from his yahoo host album, so you can't see the photos any more...no way to know how much it would cost...if you did the work yourself, it might be less expensive than if you take it to "west coast customs" (pimp my ride) to have it done for you... thats what i mean about the mystery cost...its hard to estimate ....i would venture to guess it is somewhat of a difficult job...once in a while, a motor and or drivetrain pops up...but you have to sit back and be patient until the right deal comes along...that being said, you'll have time to take a reality check while your waiting for these parts to come up...then you need to round up the cash to buy them...complete syty motors aren't exactly cheap to buy and they're definitely not cheap to keep them running correctly...there is a truck for sale that is almost exactly what you're looking to own...search for username "davecalidad" here on this site...he has quite a few pics of what appears to be a quality swap job...

you should be able to answer most of your own questions by searching this site as well as others like this...i believe the purpose of the "syty conversions" section here is to tell all about your conversion and or swap...so your probably going to catch a little hell until you post and tell us how you did your conversion...

Stock '99 2.2 compression ratio is 8.65:1 ...Hardly high by any comparison......Horsepower gains from the people that have done it are in line with 75-80% gains....Not alot, but when jumping from 100hp to 180hp you notice a hige difference. Not like jumping from 700-800hp :D

You are going to run into a few problems with a '98+ truck and a Sy/Ty drivetrain.....However no matter which way you go (V8, Turbo 4, Sy/Ty) look at spending $5k EASILY on all the parts, and all the little shiot you don't think about.

IMO, not worth the time/hassle to swap in a Sy/Ty motor on a 2g....spend $2500 more and get the real thing.

thanks for the reply's...this project will probably not be done for awhile, but I will have my own shop to do it in soon.

I'm definitely going to try this out, I could just buy a syclone or a typhoon but im not a big fan of the body style. I have been reading some of the other threads here and there trying to do a little research on this...will let you guys know how things go :)
