85,000 or so.

That atleast helps. Even though it should be based on condition, high mileage SyTy have a significantly lower value.

Just go for it, later on you can recoop the money you spend on it IF you don't go crazy putting it together. That way you can have another Typhoon in your garage, because you didn't learn the first time around. :rotf: And I can give you a hard time about taking the plunge again.

That way you will have another :turbo: instead of just a V-8 want a be. How is that project coming along, It was looking pretty good the last time I seen pictures of it.

THere's two running trucks right now for sale by people on this board for 5K. Hey, it's been sitting there for 2 yrs right? At least you've got time on your side as a bargaining chip. I understand you've got the guts to make it run, but hey, why not just buy a running truck and still have the guts around incase you find an actual good deal. :2cents:

On the 1st page of classifieds I found the following tys and prices...
93 Ty $15.5k
93 Ty $15k
93 Ty $13.5k
93 Ty $11.5k
93 Ty $10.9k
92 Ty $8.5k
92 Ty $5.5k (w/ cancer) & its 1,521 mi (about 23 hours 16 mins) from me

This one is 32.8 mi (about 42 mins) from me. It costs less than the rest and I can fix it with the parts here in my shop.

There is rarely anyting ever from Texas for sale. On eBay right now there is nothing Typhoon related for 335 miles from me. ack

Here is my other Typhoon lol

Yeah distance can be a big deal for sure. I guess my point was that you should be able to 'con' him down a ways from the 5K tag he's got in his head right now. If not, then if it's gonna make you happy, just say F it and pay him in washingtons.:D

Re: 92 Ty: Need help guys... Should I buy it???

good luck, I personally wouldn't do it, there is a white and grey on the board for $5300 and it runs and looks good. I am kinda in the same boat that you are, I have a wrecked 93 with awesome guts and I just bought a blown up Syclone a couple of months ago for $3500. It to is a solid Texas no rust truck, it had peeling clear coat, but I am lucky and that is what my brother does so I can have the paint done at cost of matierals, and he is realllly good! And also think do you like the green Ty's? It is personally my least favriote color that was made. I would show up with 40 Ben Franklins and see what goes down. Cash in hand can usually seal a deal. Good Luck and keep us posted.

So much for minimal projects ;) ... I feel your pain about nothing being around, I usually have to ship everything at least 250 miles.

So I found a local Typhoon that needs some work. Its 1992 #23xx offered for sale by the original owner. Comes with all manuals, service manuals, window sticker, etc.
It isnt running and has been sitting in the Texas heat for 2 years now. Paint is gone, dash is crashed (have a spare dash), right rear cladding cracked, back bumper pushed in a bit (have a nice bumper on my parst Ty), motor is new but who knows the story (have a running drivetrain in my parts Ty)....

Give me some opinions please. Im not sure if i shoudl pick it up and fix it... Im thinking It could be fixed fairly easily.

Here are the details from the owner....
_________________________________________________________________________
A new engine (not rebuilt) was installed a little over 2 years ago and has approximately 100 miles. The turbo was rebuilt at the same time the new engine was installed. New tires were put on at the same time and have approximately 100 miles wear.

The vehicle went in for routine maintenance to a certified repair shop. One of the mechanics that worked at the shop took the vehicle out and blew the engine because he ran it without oil. The shop did however, replace the engine with a new stock GMC Typhoon engine and had the turbo rebuilt. Now the problem is that it doesn't run. Numerous attempts have been made to find a mechanic that knows something about Typhoons, but frankly, I haven't the time nor inclination to continue pursuing this. I am hoping that it finds a good home and that someone who knows the value of what this vehicle is can bring it back to life as it has many great years left.

The body is in excellent condition as is the interior of the vehicle. It has been smoked in. It is and has been only in Texas so I don't believe you will find any rust here. Anybody that knows about Typhoons, knows that the paint jobs were poor and therefore it does need paint (mainly on the hood and roof above windshield where it has peeled). The right rear cladding is cracked all other cladding (ground effects) good. Nothing has been modified all original equipment and it has never been raced.

The following parts have been replaced, exhaust system, alternator, serpentine belt, driver door power window motor, heater core and it does have tinted windows. This is all in addition to the new engine and rebuilt turbo.

I really have no idea why it doesn't run, so I can't say whether it's an easy fix or not. It could be something simple, but then again, I don't know which is why I am offering it for such a low amount. It doesn't mean it isn't a great vehicle because it is and it gave me many years of enjoyment. The vehicle does come with the original owners and service manuals.

Re: 92 Ty: Need help guys... Should I buy it???

So here is the WHOLE story on this truck...

The guy is a 66 year old man and is the origional owner. He looked all over DFW to find one and one dealership had one. It was out on a test drive with a Dallas Cowboy. The Cowboy didnt buy it and the salesman called to say "Its here come get it now!"

The Ty was his daily driver. Just to the office and back. Never raced, or beaten much at all. One day it was in the dealer for service. One of the porters liked Typhoons and took it for a test drive. The truck had no oil in it and he blew the engine. The dealership replaced it with a new short block. About 100 miles later the check engine light came on. He parked it out behind his buddy's warehouse one day. Then the next time he went to start it, the truck cranked over but didnt fire. There it sat for almost 1 1/2 years.

It has 86,397 miles.
- newer tires
- new shortblock
- rebuilt turbo
- alternator new
- newer exhaust
- new serpentine belt
- new radiator
- new heater core
- always used Mobile 1 oil
- new brakes

Comes with window sticker, glove box manuals, 3 service manuals, etc

Here is the current status and damage assessment.
- It has badly worn paint and needs a re-paint. Some surface rus where paint is peeled off
- Front right cladding missing front tab
- back right corner cladding cracked
- bumper pushed in in the rear
- dash is cracked
- it was smoked in
- clear on rims is messed up
- cladding on left side is sun baked on the top
- one large indention in left side body (not very noticeable)
- wiper and defront buttons to the left of gauges are faded
- Needs battery
