'92 Blue/Gray Typhoon For Sale

FOR SALE

1992 GMC Typhoon #0875
Aspen Blue / Argent Grey

$8000
Raleigh, NC

One of very few in the original Aspen Blue color with Argent Grey cladding, this truck is sure to be unique wherever it goes.

This truck has always been very well cared for. It has had only 2 owners, both of whom have kept up with religious Mobil 1 oil changes and have kept detailed maintenance records from the day it rolled off the lot. Not surprisingly, the truck runs great, and is on its original engine, turbo, and transmission! The engine has never been pulled, the truck has never been wrecked, and the interior is in excellent condition. While it is stock overall, light mods and add-ons are detailed below.

Because it should be, this truck has been sparingly raced, and then always with race gas. It has turned a best quarter-mile time of 13.6 @ 96 mph, and made the trip to SyTy Nationals in 2002.

As a daily driver for many years for both owners, there are 176k miles on this truck. You wouldn’t know it by looking at the undercarriage! As to be expected, though, there are a few rust blisters above the rear hatch and on the driver’s side A-pillar.

Please email privately with specific inquiries.

Add-ons and Mods:
ATR rear anti-sway bar (pneumatic load leveling system delete, but parts available)
ATR stainless steel 3” cat-back exhaust and muffler
A-pillar gauges (Westach –30/+30 boost gauge, Westach 60psi fuel pressure gauge)
Kenne Belle AFPR
Intercooler radiator hose mod (metal tubing delete, but parts available)
PST Polygraphite suspension components
HotShot Remote Starter Solenoid
Low-mileage Kumho ECSTA 711 245/50HR16 tires

Includes:
Datamaster software with ALDL cable
Service manual PDF files on CD

I am itching to pull the trigger on this one!! Can you advise me how the Aspen Blue paint got sprayed on the underside components of the truck and also email me some close up shots of the rust areas you mentioned, to include pics of the underside of each door. Thanks in advance.

Just a heads up: E-Rue is local to the truck, maybe he could give an opinion.

Wow, congrats on reaching 176K on the original engine/turbo/trans!

Re: '92 Blue/Gray Typhoon For Sale

Thanks for the props, guys - the truck is in amazing good condition for 176k. Most people don't believe it when I tell them! Eric (E-rue) has seen this truck before. About a year ago, I was thinking about working with him to put a new engine and tranny in it, and brought it by his shop. Though I decided not to pull the trigger on the upgrades, it would be fine by me if you'd like to get his opinion on it.

Considering that this truck is in basically stock condition, runs great, and has a great interior and largely rust-free exterior, it would be a great candidate for a build!

As far as how the Aspen blue paint got sprayed on the undercarriage - to tell you the truth, I have no idea. As far as I know, the truck is on its original paint, and I've certainly never had it painted.

Thanks for posting the pics from the 2002 Nationals. The first one is from the wheel change contest - change all 4 wheels with the stock jack and tire iron, carry each around the car, then reinstall to proper torque specs. I came in second place - so close to getting a prize tranny build! The second is from the drag racing part of the event. Didn't push the truck that hard that time - after all, she had to get me 1000 miles back home!

I would say that what is thought to be overspray really isn't. To me it looks like the cheap black undercarrige paint that in time turns a chalky black giving you a bluish tint. Why I say this is there is no way blue over spray would be able to be on the back of the brake assembly if sprayed from the front, it'd be like the paint making a u-turn to adhere to the rear end. From what I have read, most of the Aspen ended up being resprayed by the dealer. Its the reason the color were discontinued mid production.

Re: '92 Blue/Gray Typhoon For Sale

I've also heard that GMC had some initial quality control problems with the Aspen Blue color, either in regards to orange-peel or premature peeling. Suffice it to say, this truck has neither of these problems. It may have been repainted by a dealer early on, perhaps even before the first owner got his hands on it. I've had the truck next to another Aspen Blue, and it it a slightly lighter shade. Mine also has some nice gray pinstriping down the side that set off the cladding nicely.

I can vouch for the quality control issue. Our Aspen looked terrible and was eventually repainted under warranty (we are the original owners).

Re: '92 Blue/Gray Typhoon For Sale

Whats up with the red GMC letters? Ive never seen a Aspen Ty or any '92 Ty with that early of a VIN without the black letters.

Joe I don't know if this is correct but I have read somewere that only the first 500 Tys came with the black GMC letters.

Looks like someone painted the black grill letters. I dont see any chrome on the letters/

Re: '92 Blue/Gray Typhoon For Sale

Others have commented on the red GMC letters, too. Only when I started hearing the questions did I notice that they are different from what other trucks have. How they got to be that way, I don't know.
