700r4 dead?

so a few months ago i was drivin the sy and it was having trouble shifting., i tried to limp it home and as i tried to take off from a stop light the tranny lost all forward gears. i had to drive home in reverse...tomorrow im pulling the transmission. my questions are

1. is the sy/ty 700r4 an easy removal, ive taken the 700 r4 out of my s-10 and have taken trannies out of many mustangs.....
and

2.is the tranny toast or does it just need some tweaking..the fluid was black but didnt smell too burnt

also before it completly lost all forward gears it would rev up then kick into gear real hard

trans needs to be rebuilt.
it's easier than an s-10
if you lost all forwards it could be several things but all pretty common stuff. you didnt toast any clutchs you just broke something. most likely the sprag, reaction shaft, or input drum.

well i purchased i master racing overhaul kit and a new tci converter im gonna have put in while its out......what else should be replaced so i dont have to do this again anytime soon?

you have purchased nothing but stock parts. thats all youve got. you need to replace that stuff with better than stock parts. if you have a hard parts failure you also need to flush the cooler lines and replace the radiator.

im not really lookin to build this up and race it..i want it to be a daily driver again...im workin on a 93 s-10 for my race project...so theses stock parts should be fine right?

im kinda leaning towards just buying a new tranny.....anyone know of any website where i can look at prices for the sy,,,,,,also on the tci trannies it just say 700r4,,,,are they the same in sy/ty and s-10.....our transmission are 31 spline correct?
