5-Speed Conversion

Has anyone considered converting to manual?

I know there are various 5spd's like from a Corvette or Z28 that could be made to work?

What about AWD with 5-Spd? I am very very interested in this procedure. I'd love to get a 5 or 6-spd Ty or Sy on the road.

Has anyone acheived or taken on such a project yet?

I am very eager to see the positive responses to this question.

Thanx. Rich.

No one's done it yet for 3 reasons IMHO

1- It'd be slower
2- It'd be expensive
3- It'd be difficult

I agree with you that it'd be interesting, but man it would cause mega-headaches. Clutches holding up to high torque shifts & launches... forget about it.. 3-4000 RPM drops on the AWD drivetrain.. you thought Syty's were hard on drivetrain parts now... that'd kill a LOT of parts doing it that way.

Imagine the incredible unreliability of the AWD DSM's...only worse...our torque would destroy parts even faster...

I have heard that vinilla ice's ty had a 6 speed in it, probly a borg warner from the lt1 fame. I havnt heard much about it or verified anything. Maybe merk heard the same?

Agree though, not a good idea. These trucks have their advanges and their target performance area. I dont think any of that involves a manual trans. buy a beeter and drive that around if you need a manual.
