4" intake elbow runs into radiator return line.

I can take pics of this if needed, but I assume a few of you guys ran into this same problem. When bolting on a turbo with a 4" inlet, and using a 4" cobra elbow, there still isn't hardly any room at all. The tranny cooler and a/c lines are out of the way pretty much, but the line that returns from the heater core to the back of the radiator gets right smack in the way of that elbow. What have you guys done to get around this?

I used a 4" to 3" reducer silicone elbow. It worked perfect and looks nice too.

Where do you find it, link? How's about a pic?

Thanks

Trim the "lip" of the cobra hose that is on the turbo... (so you can push it on more...)This will bring the elbow toward the turbo and away from that line...

(I did this way back with a T63 on my truck...)

I put a "T" in the lower radiator hose.

That's what I was thinking. I looked all over for something to use. Found a cool little piece in the plumbing dept. at but it turned out a little too big. What did you use? I'll probably go this route.

Good idea, I might try that too.

I think I remember seeing your post on that, looks nice, but I already have a 4" cobra. Thanks.

WE use a 1994 S10 rad. it does not have this fitting on the rad and is a bolt in.

We put a fitting on the water pump instead.

I just made it from some stainless tubing, 16 or 18 gauge I think, 3/4" OD for the heater core line and I forget the OD tube for the radiator, I think it was 2" or 2.5", both pieces just a few inches long. Basically justed drilled a 3/4" hole where I wanted the other tube to T into it, welded it up, debured it with a die grinder, cut the lower radiator hose, trimmed out 3/4", 3 hose clamps and that was it.

Oh, and you can get 3/4" rubber plugs at any autoparts store to cap off the port on the radiator.

Re: 4" intake elbow runs into radiator return line.

The ATR downpipe kit came with a new trans line for this spot that routed it out of the way and my 4" cobra just fits.

if you read the post you would have seen the trans line isnt the issue.

I'll probably go with my original idea, what Capitan did. But just out of curiosity, where did you run the return line from the heater core? I have the spot on the water pump for water out, but where did you route the water back in?

Re: 4" intake elbow runs into radiator return line.

I was just looking at that exact picture. Thanks. I was just about to go out and make sure my intake manifold had that hole. There's nothing it in now? Never seemed to notice it before...

Re: 4" intake elbow runs into radiator return line.

Okay, so does the pressue flow the same way as before, or will it be reversed? Stock, there is more pressure at the intake manifold than the radiator? And now won't it be higher pressue in the water pump than at the intake manifold? Also, does the flow direction of the heater core matter, or does it go either way? (<<insert gay joke here)

As far as I've been told the heater core can flow either way, someone please confirm this.

I really don't think the pressure matters but again someone who has done this to confirm please.

The heater core can flow either way.

Running one heater hose to the water pump and the other to the back of the intake is fine...tons of SBCs are plumbed this way.
