3'd to 4th delayed shift? Help please(George)

Hello George or anyone else that's had this issue.

When I finished the engine build and got it back on the road it seems to want to hang in 3d gear past 40mph.
It did not do this prior to the rebuild.

I've tried alot of different TV cable settings going one click at a time. If I let it get much softer you won't feel the shift's at all and it's still not helping 3 to 4th mph shifting earlier.

I've changed the trans fluid and filter but that's the only change I can think that I've made to the actual transmission.

The govener is the only thing I can think of that would make it shift late like that.

Ideas?

Thanks, Scott~

If the timing on all the other shifts is OK, you've either got a stuck governor, or your 3-4 sequence valve is sticking. If you took your cooler lines loose while you had the engine out, you may have gotten some crud in there. It is supposed to shift into 4th at about 44 mph. Hold it at about 50 and see if it will shift after you hold it for a bit. If it still won't shift, slow down so it shifts back into 2nd and then give a little more throttle(kinda spirited but not WOT) and see if the additional line pressure makes it shift.

If it's set to shift at 44MPH then it's right on target. Humm... I'm wondering if since the engine is built and it's ALOT louder if we notice that it's higher just because it's louder? Might be!

It shift's between 43-44mph. If you add just a little pedel it wants to shift. It pull's it's self back down when you let off and go below 40mph.

Maby it's situation normal.

We did not change the exhaust but the darn thing is loud now! Guess built engine is huffing a bit more air ;)

Thanks for your help guys!

Your fine. Don't worry about a thing. That is exactly how it's supposed to act.

Is your Torque Converter locking up? At light throttle it will lock up in 3rd at ~32 mph. Aftermarket chip also sometime delay this until a later mph as well.

I've got tuner pro with the Auto prom. The only thing I can find with relation to Transmission is the TCC 3d gear load limits (RPM)

Now.. If I had a chart to figure out what that exactly ment I'd be golden :rotf:

I tried playing with the limits but not sure if it helped any.

Maby I need to replace that ATR muffler with somthing quiet.?

I know it's only going to get louder when I switch to the 61 turbo and make my own down pipe here in the next few months.

If anyone has a clue how to set the load limits on the TCC deal that'd be helpfull!
Thanks, Scott!

In addition to the load limits table their should be a constant for the MPH to lock up in 3rd gear (which inturn stays locked in 4th) in Tuner Pro. You can also check you TCC circuit manually lock the Torque Converter through the ALDL diagnostic port by grounding it. It won't lock up in first gear, but it lock up in 2nd-4th, you will know if its locked. However, I wouldn't ask Jimmy or I for the ALDL pin out...

I along with others have played with all the TCC tables and nothing seems to work other than the upper and lower limit for 3rd gear tables. thats only part throttle though. the rest of it I've never seen where it will actually make it act differently. WOT lockup is 72 and its a sliding scale between 72 and the other table when in PE mode.
