Re: 1992 Typhoon 0539 rebuild

Well, I got it running with a lot of help from the board and in particular Bezerk, HARMON and Sy1219. Awesome.

Now I need to get it running smooth but it damn well runs!

Tranny fluid in - no leaks
PS fluid in - no leaks
coolant in - no leaks

need to fill it with brake fluid, bleed the lines and do a few other odd jobs before I can drive it but it runs under its own power now.

I am so pleased, as you can imagine. Now to smooth it out and find it a new home :D

Not sure if I remember correctly, Mark is it? You said you'd do it and you did. I absolutely cant believe it. So from me to you, I was wrong. I never thought the ol' girl would run again. AWESOME MATE!!!!!

If you forgot, its Steven. I pulled the engine for you. Now get that beast running and all the bugs worked out and head up to the lorry park in Bury to redeem yourself! Or did you forget about the failed launch? ;) Be wary of the blue C6 'vette. He is packing 509hp.

WOW amazing build mate.

Glad to hear you got it running. Got mine back togather after the head gasket blowing, doing the fuel pump & the racetronix harness this Sat. & gas station down the road just got 110 octane fuel that going in.

Hey Steve, I was wondering if you were still following . Thanks mate. It'e had a lot done since then. So far I found:

tranny fried
lifters collapsed
sensors broke

As you can see, no expense has been spared. It's been emotional and I definitely regretted doing this at times but in the next few months I think I should have some interesting videos and timeslips to post :)

How is FLA? :D
Mark whats this about a failed launch:popcorn2:

Boost launching a busted US 1992 truck in a truck park in Bury St Edmonds and realising I had some work to do... kind of humiliating. Then I realised I didn't drive a gay piece of sh1T, just somehting that needed some work. My hatred of chav cars was spawned on that day :D

I was VERY impressed with the EVO though :D

Glad to hear you got it running. Got mine back togather after the head gasket blowing, doing the fuel pump & the racetronix harness this Sat. & gas station down the road just got 110 octane fuel that going in.

Sweeeeeeeeet! You were soooooooooooooo right about the rocker arms. Now I just need working injectors and a tune, plus the IC running and the front brake kit.

We are blitzing it next weekend (bezerk and UK-Ty) as well as sorting out UK-Ty's knock. A real bona fide UK wrench session.

AJ, thanks for your help man...Hope to see some cool timeslips soon!

I was at the track the other day and an 11 sec truck would be very different over here! I am sure it's got 10s in it!

Cheers guys! After 25 May should have some developments!

Re: 1992 Typhoon 0539 rebuild

YEah I was telling all my Brit friends that there isnt much that could out launch a SyTy and then you showed up and proved me WRONG! LOL You must go back once the old girl is running properly and show them what a "yank tank" can do.

Your dad must be very proud whith what you have done with that truck. I dont think I could have done it man. So you def have my respect.

The Evo. LOL man that car ended up being a BEAST. It got modded pretty well when I got back to the USA. 350whp on the stock 16g turbo at 21psi. It still holds the record for the highest whp stock turbo VIII (without power adders) on MASE's dyno in Jacksonville. We figured 330whp was all it was going to do but the first pull was 333whp at 24psi. After he tuned it for road racing it was 350whp at 21 psi.

I took it to Alabama on a 110deg miserable humid day and pulled a 12.4 @ 118. I was really hoping for 12.1 @ 120+ but it was just too hot & humid.

I'll take the pics down if you want. Just let me know.

Florida is great. A lot of bugs though. I hate these damn teeth with wings. We bought a really nice house out of town on the golf course. Funny considering I hate golf! But its very nice and quiet. I was thinking of coming back to the UK to visit my mates. Dont know if thats going to happen with all that we have going on. I miss it and my friends.

Re: 1992 Typhoon 0539 rebuild

So this weekend Bezerk is flying from the Netherlands, UK-Ty is driving from Derby, North England and all my parts are shipping from the USA while I fly from London to meet up with EuroTy members for a marathon wrench session.

All meeting in Truro, Cornwall.

65lb BIN for the truck
C5 brakes front going in
Greddy Profec Spec B2 to be installed
Alkycontrol setup?
PCV setup to go in
parking brake

new wheels at last!

Hopefully a vid of it being driven out the garage by the end of the weekend. Stay tuned :D

OK, lots done and drove the truck for the first time :woot: and made a vid but the vid was really :rainbow: :)

It was just me backing it out of the garage. The 2800 stall is crazy as it sounds so loud and it isn't setup correctly at the moment as the throttle body isn't spring loaded enough to respond as i would like. The coolant sensor made the truck run really rich but after that it has been idling a bit better.

IAC counts are up in the 90s though - not sure what to do - swapping back to the stock throttle body tomorrow.

Also, the coolant sensor was knackered - brand new and still broken - very annoying

Throttle body - brand new and not working as it should

Loads to write about but I'm going for a beer with Bezerk and UK Ty. They have been busting their asses today and the ONLY reason I could drive my truck was because of them. Props to Rene and Rob :woot:

Hoping to get some more stuff done this weekend - pics to follow! Truck looks f***in A+ ;)

Re: 1992 Typhoon 0539 rebuild

Re: 1992 Typhoon 0539 rebuild

some good and some bad.

The good - see above.

Also found some side repeaters so it can pass it's MOT.

The bad:

1. trans locked in second = trans repair.
2. crank pulley is warped so the belt keeps jumping - new one on the way - can anyone say billet?
3. wrong size oil pressure gauge - need a new one plus sender
4. intermittent fuel pump cutting out problem. if it's jumpered it runs good.
5. steering stops need to be installed - are there any items you can get for this?
6. exhaust pipe clearance on the AC box is no good - dp needs looking at
7. Need a metal intercooler pipe custom made so I can moutna BOV
8. Brake pedal needs adjustment for the hydroboost - feeels rock solid.
9. window seals needed.

I have to move the truck to London this time as I just can't spend 12 hours on a weekend once a month travelling to get there and get nothing done :(

This truck has overwhelmed my life. Nearly there...
