With several other vehicles in my fleet, the time has come to thin the herd unfortunately. I'm putting my Typhoon up for sale, $7k firm. I own it outright, so I don't NEED to sell it.
Mileage is around 147k (forgive me for not remembering exactly), it is BONE STOCK with no upgrades aside from a Walbro fuel pump, Kenne Bell AFPR, genuine Greddy type RS BOV with almunium turbo to IC pipe, a remote starter solenoid for the purple wire fix, and a hardwired Shurflo IC pump with hoses to / from the CCHE. Hood burned me a chip to ignore the EGR, but I have not fully removed the EGR system as I didn't have a block off plate. I still get a CEL from time to time while cruising which shows as EGR, so I'm not sure why that is. The truck has inoperable A/C (but still hooked up), ABS delete, and cruise delete (didn't work before).
For those with kids, as mentioned in another thread, I also removed the back seat and carpeting one day to weld in some 1/4" thick steel rod, in a child seat restraint fashion because I was SICK of having to mess with the factory seatbelts with my boys carseats. If you've got kids, you know what I'm talking about. (4) sections of rod were bent in a __|````|__ fashion, and welded to the floorpan of the truck. They are accessable from the front like shown below (web photo), but do not impede things if you want to fold down the rear seat. It makes installing carseats MUCH easier, and trust me...they are welded in to stay. If they rip out, they are taking a secion of the floor with them.
The cladding was removed and painted gloss black. Under the cladding was NO rust. The roofrack is there, but the chrome strips have been removed (I have them) and holes plugged as a couple were leaking. The dash has a small crack by one speaker, which is common, but aside from that, the interior is VERY clean with only wear showing on the drivers seat where you slide in and out of the truck. I still have the factory 5-band EQ CD player, but the CD player portion doesn't work anymore. Did when I first bought the truck. I also have the original "Typhoon" floor mat set.
This truck is the most incredible daily driver ever. When people talk about how unreliable SyTy's are, they are not talking about this truck. I have driven it as a daily driver for 3 summers. I have taken several 1000 mile road trips, hauled children, lumber, work supplies, etc. I use it like an everyday car, and I have NEVER had the slightest hiccup with it, EVER. It is beyond reliable, and I would hop in and drive across the country tomorrow without hesitation.
"ISSUES", if you'd like to call them that.
1) Rear end has a whine on deceleration. Its done this since I bought it, it did it before I bought it, and its not an issue. Its just there. I have a full rear end rebuild kit with a ring & pinion, yoke, bearings & seals that go with the truck. I can also set you up with a low-mileage Sy rear end if interested.
2) Fuel tank has a leak when filled to the top, but this will be taken care of prior to sale. Started late last summer.
3) Paint on the front fender is worn away by the cladding. Not terrible, and very common, but warrants mention.
4) Small amount of rust on the bottom inside "pinch weld" of the tailgate. When you lower the tailgate, you can see it.
5) I had the paint cut & polished by a local shop who burned the paint off the ridge of the hood, about 1' long. They just ground the paint down to primer in that one spot.
Aside from that, the truck cleans up INCREDIBLY well, runs like it should, and will reliably get you anywhere, anytime. I've never pounded it, never boost-launched, never raced. Whenever I've gotten into the throttle, its from a roll, or for a short burst. I need to drive it....I don't need it broken, so I treat it with respect. It has rewarded me with years of reliable service.
The truck is located near Burlington, VT. I suppose I could be talked into delivery, or meeting someone quasi-local to New England. I've got 2 small kids and very little time, so a cross-country delivery roadtrip just isn't in the cards.
Ask any question you like, I will post pics of whatever you like (including more to follow...my album is limited right now). I'm 100% transparent with the truck, and have nothing to hide. Its a GREAT vehicle that I've loved, and used.
Various pics I have. ZR1's are not included. Wheels on it now are stockers.
I suppose I'd consider trades for a similar type daily driver turbo buick, 5-speed IROC, Saab 900 SPG, etc. Try me. You never know.
ALSO.....for some 3rd party info, feel free to PM Tyler aka "lophonie". I sold this truck to him in 2006, and bought it back last year. He, and his father's bodyshop did the cladding work, and owned it for a few years. Tyler can attest to the reliability and condition of the truck.
