17x11 ZR1's on their way, what about these tires?

On Friday, I ordered some AFS 17x11 and 17x9.5 ZR1 wheels directly from AFS. I went ahead and did the package deal which comes with Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta tires all mounted and balanced. Has anyone heard of these or know how they perform?

Here's a shot on how they look:
wt7cvs_b.jpg

Description:
The VREDESTEIN tires are designed in Europe where high performance cars must handle the challenges of the high speed Autobahn. They are speed rated at "Y" for up to 186 MPH. The UTQG Rating: 280/AA/A. The exciting European design gives the tire an incredible look. This is the ulitmate tire for the higher end of the market. The Ultrac Sessanta is blessed with many high-tech features. The unique design results in a wider than average tire in this size group putting even more rubber on the road.

Another great feature is this tire is asymmetrical, which means the tires can be rotated from side to side. This eliminates the tire rotation problems found when using two different size directional tires. The main features for this tire include:

* European style by Giugiaro Design
* Exceptional gripping power
* WIDER than average tread footprint
* Rim Protector
* Untimate handling construction with sturdy sidewall and bead construction
* Speed Rated to 186 MPH
* Exceptional handling on wet and dry roads, high course stability
* Jointless Tread compound provides optimal grip on wet roads
* Low rolling resistance for maximum fuel economy
* Minimal noise levels

I've never heard of them. It appears to be a pretty good tire. Don't know about the quality, though. But being the highest speed rating available, with that thread design, they'd probably handle pretty decently. Treadwear rating of 280 is about average for Y speed rated tires.

nice looking tire but I'm trying to figure out how the tire is assymetrical as stated. The wider footprint hopefully won't be a problem. My 315 summitomo rubbed in the rear fenderwell on hard launches but the same size nitto d/r does not.

They are a european brand of tire if memory serves. Looked at them when I was at SEMA last year. Seemed like decent tires.

Oh yeah and the model at thier booth was SMOKIN hot too :tup: took some pics with her, got a hug, good times.

Thanks everyone! I'll update this thread when I get some miles on them. I'm a little worried about the wider footprint too. Hopefully they'll be okay.

Oh... and yeah... where's the pics???

Found this one doing a search :D

expensive to mount and balance >.<

Sounds good on paper:
When other tire companies were putting paraffin in their tread to increase shelf life (they still do, too—squeeze an unmounted tire at your retailer’s to see for yourself), Vredestein was pioneering high-silica tread compounds to increase tread life without affecting handling or performance. When other companies buy natural rubber for their high-end racing tires to reduce rolling resistance, Vredestein has maintained its own Malaysian rubber plantations since 1946. Finally, consider the high-end racing clincher. And while other companies advertise “tubular-quality ride,” Vredestein delivers. With a casing technology that permits a 145psi recommended pressure for lower rolling resistance and unsurpassed cornering consistency. Tread, rubber, pressure. Just three examples of the difference between precision, and fanatical precision. And between other tire brands, and Vredestein
keep in mind they are talking about a bike tire.

I'd be careful with those tires in the wet. The inner sipes don't drain out the sides. In principle they should hydroplane worse than drag radials. Sharp looking though.

I thought the same thing but then I read this:

Twelve different tests were performed (six dry and six wet): aquaplaning, braking, handling, safety and slalom. Vredestein got the best score of all outclassing tire producers such as Pirelli, Continental, Dunlop, Goodyear, Michelin, Hankook and Toyo.
I'll have to hit some water in a safe area and see what happens.

The 9.5's will hit the stock A-arms, so you need to trim or make a steering stop.

Anyone know if 9.5" wheels will hit RPM's A-arms on a coilover setup? Got the rears mounted last night, just need to do the fronts. Going to grind .5" of the stub shaft so the center caps can fit. The 315's look bad ass and not as wide as I was expecting. I'll have to take some pictures.

if its a 58 mm offset whats going to happen.. im guessing it will be dead on on the fronts but the back will need about a 1/4 inch spacer?

Re: 17x11 ZR1's on their way, what about these tires?

You should run a 17x9.5 with a +54mm on the fronts and a 17x11 with a +36mm on the rears and it will work with no mods the only thing you may have to do is trim the end of the front axle
