I have a stock ty with a hypertech thermo master, and 160 thermo stat, My temp guage hasn't changed much, actually on the high way the temp goes up past half way mark, my sy has a ATR chip , and ATR 160, and the guage stays way down. What Do I do?? Thanks

Alot of trucks read differently when they may be much closer than they appear. I would get a datalogging tool on both trucks and get the real temps.

Another easy fix would be to pick up a 160* thermo from the local parts store and put it on the Ty.

I had a 160* thermo in my Ty and temps would stay at 160* - 168* all the time. Turn on the AC and it would climb up just a bit, but nothing big.

Let everyone know what you find out...good luck. :D

I also have 160 with the same results, I like the 160 alot better than the 180 that was in there before.

it's cool to run cooler...

it's cool to run cooler...

Go to Autozone or the like and pick up a Robert Shaw generation one 160 thermostat for less than $10. Just a word of caution though if you live in an area where you have to be checked for emissions. A cooler stat will make it harder for you to pass. So a swap to the stock stat may be required when you go to get tested (if ever) HTH.

I have the 160 thermo too with an electric fan (thinking of adding a light weight flex fan at the same time, too cool it down more and make a little noise) anyway, i ran emissions and passed with flying colors... they watched my rpms and shoved that stick up my ty's ass..... oh well my .02 with the low temps...

I was looking at the Robert Shaw thermostats at AutoZone the other day. I noticed that they have a few different 4.3L versions listed. Is there really any difference, and if so, which one do I want? Are there any possible negative side effects of going with a colder stat? Gas mileage, incorrect computer readings, etc.?

I ran a 160º this winter and since I only drive 2 miles to work, I was getting alot of condensation and fuel dilution in my oil (based on an oil analysis). I would recommend switching the 160º for a 180º or 195º during the winter.
