160-stat and cat question

i was looking through the archives here and i saw someone say if you ran a 160-stat that is would ruin your cat. i was just planing on changing my thermostat over and wanted to see what this was all about. thanks.

If you live where it gets cold I would recomend a 180, because some people have experienced tourqe converter shutter whith the colder t-stat. ken

I run a 140* with no problems, i live in vegas but at night my coolant never goes above 140* and i dont have any tc problems, but some others do, HTH

I haven't noticed any problems with my 160* yet, though I just put it in earlier this summer. FYI, the torque converter won't lock up until the engine coolant hits 150* with the stock chip. I can cruise at 60mph, and watch the RPMs drop when the temp gets up to 150 and it locks up...
