Re: 12 CM housing 20G turbo stall?

Are the 20G and the stock turbo exhaust housings interchangable? I ported the stocker's exhaust housing my self and wondered if it will make any improvement over the 20g's unported housing? Thanks.

The 20G uses a 06H exhaust wheel which is larger than the 06 wheel the stock turbo has. You can machine the stock housing to fit a 20G but once its machined to fit the 06H wheel you can't go back. You can get larger than stock exhaust housing that will fit the 06 wheel, for instance some of the 12cm housing will fit the stock turbo.

To add a little more to this thread. I went from a 1.86 on the stock turbo to a 2.24 last night. I can not build anymore than 1psi. I will most likely be getting a TC now.

Don't forget to get a tune as well. It's all about the combo.

Turbo, fuel, TC, tune, etc...

Good to know, thanks for coming back with some feedback. I agree that tuning can help a lot (hell in any case it can), but bolt on performance is what most people are interested in. If you cant get help tuning the spool-up (or dont have the ability yourself) then a converter is definately in the works.

My 2800 Raptor x2 does great with my 12cm-H turbine setup, I think I could probly go with a little less as my dad is using the same 2800 with his 14cm 20g with good results.

I will add even more. I decided on a custom tune instead of the TC.

The tune helped spool tremendously. It doesn't lag as it did with the Ultimate.

With a brake launch, stock I could build 4psi and with the patented street start I could build 6-7psi. Now with the 12cm2 exhaust housing I build 0-1psi and 3psi with the patented street start. I assume the TC will help with brake launches but the tune was worth it as far as lag.

Please take the following statement for what it's worth, I am not an expert:
My suggestion after driving on this turbo all summer, to people wanting stock appearing turbo... if you are a drag racer get the 20g/14cm2/tune and TC. For street use, I would get jwaller's stock turbo upgrade.

Re: 12 CM housing 20G turbo stall?

I think since the DP's are no longer available from PTE at a reasonable price and the custom fabbed pipes are now $700 pushing $800 and seem to be back ordered / not very available, many of us (including myself) are looking for good aternates to the PTE turbo's. I know the deal and why they aren't supplying the there DP's any more but it really burns me that they don't want to support a product they still sell? For this reason I feel that I don't want to support a product or company that has decided to "let it go" and the thought of $1200 turbo and 7-800 for a pipe? That's two grand plus!
I really don't want to go PTE now if I can give my bucks to one of the guys that will continue to support us, IMO.

I have spoken to Waller, Mike and Scott and I think Waller most likly has the better set up for upgrade. Scott says he feels he may be able to help us out with some options and Mike is looking at some things also. I have heard good and moot (not bad) things about the Deadbolt units but no real solid info. What kind of power can one of there max effort turbos produce? If compared to a PTE, where does it stack up class wise (PTE 52, 54, 61 ??). Anybody got one of the Deadbolt "max effort" turbos that has had it for a while and can give some solid fact based comments either way?

The PTE kits haven't gone up all that much. The non ball bearing 44,51,52, 54, 61 are 838.80. The DP is $749. The total of ~$1590. Previously, I am pretty sure the PTE kits were ~1500-1550. If you using bigger Turbo's or Ball Bearing the kit have alway been $2000+
