Guys,

I am trying to see if anyone has pictures of an aftermarket 1 & 1/2 din stereo in a Sy/Ty's. I would prefer not cutting up the A/C ducts behind the stock stereo to fit a single din radio in flush so I thought the 1 & 1/2 din stereo were shorter depth, Pictures would be great as well as any information. I want better sound that looks right.

I attempted to install a chyrsler 1.5 din 6 disc changer from a new LX-series car, but the radio requires a serial bus to run. If you could get that to work it would be a great option.

No cutting ducts or buying filler panels. Fits like stock.

Thank you midnightblue S10. If you had to do it over again would you go the same route you have shown here?

Re: 1 & 1/2 din stereo install pictures

I have a similar 1.5 DIN Pioneer unit that was a tight fit, but it did fit without any modifications. I eventually did have to modify the heater case behind it make room for the connector that goes to the CD changer. That irritated me pretty bad at the time. Pioneer KNOWS that unit barely fits in most GM locations, and the stupid connector on the cable for the changer hangs off the back of the unit about another 1/2 inch when it's plugged in. Surprise! Your direct-fit unit doesn't fit anymore! Anyway, now that it's all said and done, I'll have an easier time installing the changer in my S-10, now that I know what to do.

If you're not installing a changer, installation is a breeze.

I would post my pic, but I must not be smart enough to know how to post a pic on the forum.

Rather than cutting the ducts, you can hit them with a heat gun and use a block of wood to push it back a bit. More room for the radio, with no noticeable change to the truck.
