the new lightnings run right with the new GT's.....which means that when drivin' by a superstar at sea level in good air it might click off a 13.7X (I heard of one that ran in the 13.6X's but it probably required quite a bit of little stuff like disconnecting sway bars etc.). Stock in the 1/4 they do not run with the syclone, but they are no slouch either. A great driver in a stock L could beat a stock syclone with a bad launch. my .02

My '99 L, with 700 miles on the odometer and 100% stock, ran 13.7's at 99-100mph 3 times in a row at E-Town NJ. I've heard of others running quicker stock. At the strip I think they'd be pretty equal. On the street, the L's gonna lose right off the line.

They weigh close to 5,000lbs and are already running 10's.

Ok, the B-S Meter is really going off now. You dont need to come on here and throw some shit around to prove your point. A Lightning in factory trim weighs 4670. Simple bolt-offs, ie tailgate, pass seat, sway bar etc and you can drop it to 4470 in minutes. That's closer to 4000 than it is to 5000. It's still a heavy truck, but at the risk of sounding like a ricer, you've still got 1.1 more litre of engine, and 2 more cylinders. Not to mention a roots style blower for instant boost to get that weight moving.

And no matter how you look at it, you've still got your sights set on a low-tech V6 with pushrods.

I hate threads like this. They force people who dont hate L's to come out and trash them in defense of their Sy. I have a box with every MM&FF issue in it since March of 96. I love Fords, but I will never roll over if one tries to rape my Sy. And I will never lose to an L in a street race.

By the way.. who are Jim, Sal and Johnny?

i know johnny is owner of johnny lightning performance. ive seen his ride at wfc5 and its definately a 10 sec ride. there were quite a few 10 sec lightnings here for that gathering as well as a 9 sec NA 358 G1. some badass rides roll around st louis at that time of year. later

Actually, I went with a buddy to Cecil for both of our first times at the track. He had a '00L, stock down to the airbox, and ran 13.81@99.9MPH. Went back later to run a 13.65.
The best stock run I've seen was a '02 running 13.35's @ 102MPH with just a replacement K&N air filter (not the conical filters)

And there are fullweight trucks running 10s.
Sal Menella @ PSP has the fastest Gen2 now, at 10.48@131MPH. Driverless, his truck is 4760lbs, and he's a big fella. That's at least 5000 lbs with him in it.
Johnny Lightning is JL, he has a 4325# truck that runs 10.59, without nitrous. Just a built motor and Kenne Bell blower.

Yup, I'm aware the 01's and newer L's are a bit quicker. Just trying to point out that stock for stock, at the strip, the Sy vs. L race should be a pretty close one.

My Sy went 13.6 when it was stock back in '92, and that was with a 2,000rpm/no boost launch. I've heard of other stock Sy's that went quicker, and slower.

But like I said, on the street, the L will lose right off the line.

All in all when you look at it this comes down to GM guy vs a Ford guy. There is nothing wrong with that either. We wouldn't have 10 sec trucks without this rivalry. It's great. I'm a GM guy threw and threw and have to agree that any blue oval wanting to play will get a run, stock or not. Just as slow-clone said an L' has 2 more cylinders and is what, 380-400 advertised hp. Thats a hell of a difference to 280. In any case L's are somewhat impressive and I along with others I'm sure think it's time for GM to saddle-up and build a truck to put them back ahead of the game where they belong. I'm sorry as nice as the new SS Silverado may be it's no competition for a Lighting. Throw a S/C on the bitch with AWD and now we're talking. Too bad they're 35-40 grand, allitle to salty for me. Now with Dodge's new R/T ram with a V-10 the bar has been raised.

Sy#70 took a Silver L out on I-25 from a 90 punch.
K&N and 91 octane.
Didn't punish him by any means, but he went down.
I was like, "uh oh", but it kept pulling slowly...

If you don't think the Lightning is a nice vehicle, take your SyTy over 100mph and then get a ride from someone with a Gen II Lightning and have them run you up to 100...completely different ball game.
