'01 Lightning

Whether has been nice at night down in south Texas. I'd say mid 60's the past few nights?
Lastnight I spotted a lightning a ways ahead of me. So I made my way up to him. We get a light and we're both going left. He rolls down the window and it's the same guy I raced when my truck was in 2wd. He asked if I got my AWD fixed and I said "yup, are you ready"...We catch the next light and I hear what sounds like him trying to build boost. I build some brake pressure and watch the crosslights. As soon as it goes yellow, I start bringing the boost up. The truck started to creap a few inches, and the light went green. I've never launched so hard! It jumped into the other lane a bit and I was off. Put 4 lengths on him out of the hole EASY. He spun, but not much. All the way to 110 he was TRYING to play catch up..I pulled another length or two on him before I let out. Then we just played around a bit on the highway. From 100mph he raped me, no other way to describe it other than a total raping.
We stopped afterwards and he couldnt get over my launch. Said he runs consistant 13.9's, we exchanged digits and hopefully I'll get to show him up at the track soon. I just love audiences.

You did a boosted launch racing into a left turn?? Wow you have a lot more balls than me.. I don't even do that when I'm by myself much less with someone next to me.

no, we didnt race from the left turn, we played a little inbetween the left turn and the next light, but I learned my lesson about letting the turbo spool while going around a corner..Seems I always learn my lesson the hard way.
Yah, where is easterbunny? This guys stock lightning is running good times(13.9) and my truck is completely stock(except for a walbro) with 108k miles and I completely smoked his ass.
As for the 100mph run in 2wd, prolly would of been the same outcome. We were just doing that for fun, and Leroy(the l owner) is a cool guy so I didn't mind letting him have a win. As far as I'm concerned all that really matters is whose first at the 1/4 mile.

I thought all 01 Ls ran low 13s from reading on their websites?

Your Sy couldn't pull on the L past 100? Ls are slugs past 100 (they run outta steam and their weight really shows.... Hmm, I need to find me a Sy to race in an 80-120 race! Hehehehe!

GOOD KILL!

the truck wont shift into 4th gear while at WOT and at 100-110 i'm almost redlined. So I gotta ease up and let it shift into fourth, and by then he was already pullin on me.

Went and checked out that lightning board and found this. -->
All Midwestern Truck Owners are invited to our next big ILLNESS club race outing. It is tentatively scheduled for Sunday October 7th at Byron Dragway in Byron, Illinois. In addition to Lightnings, we would like to get some of the "off brand" makes of trucks there as well. Please spread word of this to your friends who are not fortunate enough to own a Lightning. Details of this event will follow in the next day or two-->

Anyone from Illinois going with there Sy's?

Then there's his transmission that ran a quart and a half low for awhile, and he thinks it's baked now too. Poor easterbunny. I think I'm ready for that race now.

My truck is going in next week for the blown plug.

Most stock '01's are running high 13's. I never said they (stock) were faster than syclones. Especially for short distances.

The truck doesn't run too good on 7 cylinders, I suspect yours would run poorly with 5!

Can't disagreee with you about that. My '99 L went 13.7 stock. I figured the '01 L's would go 13.5's anyway, but that didn't seem to happen?? And yes, my Sy would run poorly on 5 cylinders. My L well, I don't know if it would run at all on 5.

Here's some more fuel for the fire.

I was at the track yesterday with my GN. My first run was versus an '01 Lightning. He ran a 13.468 @ 101.04 (yes, I beat him). I think it was modded a bit, he had a bunch of stickers and shiny things under the hood.

Counting the one I ran, there were SIX at Island Dragway yesterday (2 white, 2 red, 2 black - at least 3 had clear tail lights). The rest were running very low-14s and some high-13s. But the MPH is up there - with traction they should be capable of some true mid-13s. The guy I ran against had a 2.0 60' time. They all had stock rims and tires. Two still had plastic on the seats.

It was in the low 60s yesterday - nice turbo/SC weather (I ran a personal best in the GN). Track elevation is 520 feet above sea level.

Just my observations....

Lol...plastic on the seats yet they take it drag racing. That makes a lot of sense...

Don't keep us in suspense Jim. How did the GN run?

Well, since you asked....

The GN ran a 12.60 @ 105.72. Not spectacular at first, but...it was on regular 'ol pump gas with a street timing chip. My best time and MPH to date (12.67 @ 106) was with a "race" chip and 110 octane leaded fuel.

I just put a bigger turbo (PT51), big injectors (50#), and an SMC alky kit on it. But, I wanted to base-line it before I introduced the alky. Never got a chance to use the alky. Car was running way hot (radiator is bad), and I couldn't turn the boost up enough to get rid of a rich condition I had. I hope to get it to very low 12s before I get aggressive with the timing, boost and alky.

Excuses, excuses....but I think I'm onto something. I wrinkled up the sidewalls on my not-very-tall McCreary G60s.

Thanks for askin'!

Jim

They are unquestionably faster, they are after all the worlds fastest production truck. Quicker is whats in debate.

and are we forgetting that the Syclone was the fastest truck in production back in '91? Wait a few years tl Dodge, or GM comes out with something quicker...then that will be the worlds fastest production truck. Leaving the Lightning as the fastest production truck from '99-'??. Time will change everything so dont get all excited.

and dont forget...stock for stock the L would be behind the Sy at the end of the quarter.

I have read that the U.S. is the only place that values acceleration over top speed. Europe and the rest all want to know "how fast will it go". So I would say that in the U.S., the Syclone is the production sport truck King. But everywhere else, they would probably say the 2nd gen. Lightning is the sport truck King. I guess it helps if you live in places where you can take it up to top speed (legally)..

Like I said, quicker is the only thing in question and if your "stock" Sy is any baseline I've seen '01's running 13.4 and 13.5 stock so that is still a questionable title.

About your earlier statement your Sy/Ty's were speed limited(126?) whereas the Dodge Lil Red Truck I don't think was. Anyone got the numbers on that one?
