well after 5 1/2 years i had to finally pick up the typhoon from rockford racecraft. its just been too long, i figured shoot if i finished the truck it would be 6,000 dollars more. and if i sell it for 4 grand.. that'd be a 10,000 dollar swing.. i can buy something new now..lol

Have you been using Rockford Racecraft as free storage, or have they been taking a looooooong time to finish?

Sometimes you just have to cut your losses...

What condition did you get the truck in? Does it run? Why did it take so long? Come on, don't leave us in the dark here.

Re: i had to do it

i got the truck back.. all it pretty much had done was a motor pull. he gave me a transmission well didnt give me.. instead of refunding any of my money.. he said the transmission was 3,500 dollars, a new fuel rail was a few hundred, a new exhaust manifold was 400. then to remove motor and disassemble was 1500 .. so we were pretty much even on that i guess. the tires may be dry rotted i ordered them 1 month into the build a set of brand new zr1 wheels with nitto drag radials. the front bumper has to be repainted. even though the truck was freshly painted when i brought it there. it had several cracks nicks. etc.. on the truck.. driver seat was torn in about 5 places.. maybe just from wear without being used or any leather protector on it.

Are you kidding me??? This sounds like a joke. You bring a vehicle into a mechanic shop for one maybe two things what ever they are and you get back bad tires, drivers seat torn. several cracks and nicks and money spent. Are you sure the work was even done correctly????

Let me tell you a little something about that mechanic you bought it to DO NOT GO TO HIM AGAIN. I dont mean the time it took to get completed but to take care of your truck like that is bullsh!t. You dont get a drivers seat torn in 5 places from it sitting there with out leather protection. You dont get nicks and cracks in the paint from a truck that doesnt move without people not giving shit and leaning things on it. Your seat was torn probably becasue they put the manifold exhaust and dam you never know maybe the tranny on it. Just a thought..

Re: i had to do it

this projects are pretty hard to let it be done by somebody else. fabricating parts and putting effort in it to look ik as good as you want it for yourselve is going to cost a shitload of time.
i bought a Sy that was in the middle of a build over, the truck was standing at my place..geruss what.. the owner did not pay me, so the truck was sitting for 3 years at my place. dry rotted tires..you bought them, right? i don't see the big deal. if you pulled your wallet and gave them 10K the truck should have been running.
RPM did about 1-2 years to get deanzsyclone running. and trust me if i tell you he didn't do the job for 6k either. you pay for what you get.

This has been an on going issue with rockford racecraft for a long time. I wouldn't take my truck there if he was the last syty mechanic on the planet.

Re: i had to do it

You Know for the record here, Herman picked up his truck depite the fact that we had it's built motor on the stand ready to go in. Trans was done, and the truck was VERY close to completion. Yeah, it took awhile, but Herman wanted a very particular build, AND demanded a performance guarantee. He was kept up to date with every delay, and was given options to speed this process up. We even did free work on his corvette as a goodwill gesture.

He told me the day he picked it up that he couldn't AFFORD to finish it. Said he owed some money and had to sell it to pay bills. So is he a liar or what? On his last post about the truck, he said "money was no issue".

This thing had the most gorked up drivetrain I've ever seen. He said the the shop that built it previously had put a billet crank and forged rods in it. Guess what? stock rods, stock crank (broke in three places) We even had to do a video of it because he was supposedly going to sue the shop.

there was no damage done to this truck. it was stored inside, and very well cared for.

Summary: We did alot of work to prepare this truck for install and make him happy. He was given options to make it happen faster; he declined. When faced with near completion and big balance, said no money, had to sell. Then he posts this.

Good luck Herman.

Re: i had to do it

it shouldn't have taken 6.5 years? no money no game, no money, no finished truck...no money means crying costomers that will do anything to blame the vendor!! to hide the money problem.

greffet? are you going to sell the engine? would you mind pm'ing me about details and price?

People fail to realize that aspect.

You have to pay to play. 6 months or 6 years the product was never paid for therefore the product was not produced.

$6,000 was spent, far far far more than $6,000 worth was done.

So who is really getting the short end here?

I read all the swinging comments, keep them coming. I understand it is always easier to bash the person instead of bashing the FACTS.

So $6,000 down, and you say another $6,000 to finish.

That is $12,000 for a built motor, custom headers, custom IC, and trans. Plus misc odds and ends.

Thats quite a deal you had there.

MODERATOR-

Herman had his say, I replied. Isn't it time to lock this thread?
Surely, there is no more benefit to this community to let this continue is there?
