An I on the right track??

My syclone pulls like a freight train for the first 3-5 minutes of driving and then all of a sudden the power comes on much slower, almost like heat soak or that the trans isn't downshifting. What is causing this. I have checked my shurflo and it's operating just fine, intercooler is full and there appears not to be any leaks. I plan to check further for leaks using the innertube test and check all the other plumbing and install an new 180 deg stat. Recent tune up is fine. My gas is new 93 octane as well. Obviously (to me) heat is a problem since it doesn't fall flat until engine temps rise. Anyone have an idea what's up? Anyone is SE PA/NJ care to help???? I really want to solve this issue.

Thanks!!

You didn't mention if the boost falls off or not. If it does it could be the wastegate puck not operating properly when it builds heat. I had that problem some years ago.

Re: An I on the right track??

Put some good fuel in it, 2 gallons of 110 octane or 2 gallons toluene to full tank of 93. See if better. Do get laptop monitor asap.

Very first thing right off the bat..... You need TunerPro or Datamaster, at the very least an old GM Tec I (I got one off of E-bay pretty cheap). I prefer and recomend TunerPro. You gotta have a good scan tool to even start finding the problem / problems.

Better fuel or not, where can he really get with out being able to monitor data? Everyone is telling the answer but no one is listening.

Something like that, hate to be an ass about it but no one can diagnose a problem that ahs 20 solutions with out a certain piece of testing equipment. There could be plenty of reasons for this problem to occur. Answer is right in fornt of you.

Re: An I on the right track??

plain and simple.....datamaster, or tunerpro....... without being able to log what the heck is going on, and being able to share it with others, you might as well be throwing lawn darts at a sherman tank!!......ie: hopeless cause,....could be wastegate, injector duty cycle, engine temp, intercooler temp (iat will show this), o2 millavolts, tps%, FALSE KNOCK, real knock,.....the list goes on and on.

call scott at detroit turbo,....he will get you what you need.

My guess is that there's an air pocket in the intercooler system such that it isn't flowing that well.

Also, could be an intermittently sticking wastegate (only sticks when hot, that kind of thing.

Tough to say for sure, without some scan data.

What kind of elbow are you using for your turbo inlet. Some of the cobra els suck in when they get hot closing of the inlet. It happened to me. Ran fine for a couple of runs then would keep shutting down. All the scan tools and data logging didn't pin point it.

It has a hard turbo to IC pipe (unless he changed it, but I doubt it)

Been there, done that. Not a big fan of cobra's now because of it.
