Typhoon or Syclone for high HP build

Well, my plans were originally to install my 427 LSX with twin turbos and 4L80 into a Typhoon.

I've since came across a Syclone and bought it. Not really into the lack of interior room on the Sy but I would keep it and build it if it had a great advantage over the Ty. Otherwise I may try to trade this truck for a Ty.

So, any opinions on what chassis would be better suited for 1500hp? (I know many will probably say neither) Bdubb was telling me that the Sy's seem to work out better due to the longer wheelbase, but I can also see weight over the rear tires being an advantage with the Ty.

Sy weighs less, and you have a bed to put things such as fuel cells, radiators, ice boxes, batteries without the issues you would in a ty to move that weight over the rear.

Once you get a cage installed things can get real tight though inside for us bigger guys and best case you can only have 1 victim with you.

Ty has more room for people, less for the "stuff". 400lbs or so more weight to start with.

So what are the real goals with this 1500hp?

Wow, didn't realize the Ty was 400lbs more to start with. At 5ft 8, 155lbs I'm not big by anyones standards, but still feel a little cramped in the Syclone.

High 8's and mid 150 trap speeds on dr's would be nice. The engine was built to replace the 890rwhp LT1 in my 96 Camaro. My cars are mostly street driven and the camaro didn't get much traction till highway speeds. I started thinking that 4 drag radials and an all wheel drive chassis is probably the best case scenario for putting big power down on the street, where it will be used most often.

If you truly make 1500hp high 8's shouldn't be a problem.

If you plan to drive it on the street I have found ty's to be a lot more comfortable though as I sold my sy.

I would think a Sy would be a better platform as well, because of the better traction/weight. 1500hp is going to get well into the 8's and far exceed 150+ traps. Robert probably has 1000hp and runs those numbers.

must be able to play deathrows greatest hits cd while making a 8.75 @ 164 pass on radials

Lol, that is a great goal Bdubb.

Didn't think 1000hp would bring 150 traps in one of these. They appear a bit aerodynamically challenged.

Trash a Ty, Syclones are more rare and WAY cooler :)

How about you make my collection a little more complete and trade the Sy for my White/Grey? Not sure if Dubb has mentioned anything to you but he can vouch for the overall condition of my truck and mediate if this sounds like something you are interested in.

Re: Typhoon or Syclone for high HP build

I'm 5'11" and 120lbs. In my sy I was cramped but got used to it. I was driving it daily and couldnt haul friends and gf's around very easy though so I got a ty instead for the room. If you arent hauling others around or driving it daily I would think the size of the sy wouldnt be terrible for you. With a cage it might be different though.

Are you keeping it all stock inside other than a cage? If you are the weight of the ty will matter but if you wanted to go with lighter non power seats and no backseat you can drop some of that weight pretty easy. I've never owned one with ride leveling but I would think that taking that off would save weight off the ty too.

As for wheelbase I cant say how much it will matter since Ive never owned anything that was 1500hp. The sy was near stock and not scary. The ty was 400-500hp and not scary. Both of them terrified my passengers, but I drive like a jackass. There are plenty of 2wd S10's and S10 blazers going as fast as you will be though so maybe some of those guys could help.

And Im glad to see someone finally doing to one of these what you are and skipping the V6 thing to go with the nastiest V8 Ive seen in one yet. And driving it on the street to top it off  I hope I never end up at a light with you.

Like Jeff said...plus

A sy can easily be setup for a pro suspension where as the ty is difficult to even put in an12 bolt rearend without modifing the fuel tank, let alone installing a 4 link. If you plan to race this at the power level you want, you will have to have a certified the cage for 8.50 (9.90-8.50). Doing that cage seup in the ty will likely mess up your extra room anyway. For the street an AWD (best) you will need all the extra weight on the front you can get. For the track you may as well just do a 2WD, as you would be overpowering the AWD anyway with that high of hp.

TYPHOOL7- Yeah, I will definitely consider it. You don't have anything available in black? :)

And yes, I was planning on keeping it stock appearing as far as the interior and exterior except for the cage.

I know at the track RWD would be ideal, but what I have in mind is having the fastest possible vehicle from any random stoplight I might happen to be waiting at, not the fastest vehicle with a prepped track/street, doing a burnout/etc.

Yea John brought up a good point of the rear suspension. Ty's are much harder and at some point you get to point of gutting the rear similar to what johns 2wd ty has done to it. Not that he gutted it per se, but did extensive work.

On the flip side not as many fast ty's.

Your BMI (body mass index) is 16.7. Normal is 18.5-24.9. Being very underweight (<17.5) predisposes you to osteoporosis, increased infections due to a depressed immune system and increased non cardiovascular and non cancer deaths over normal and even overweight people (obesity had the highest mortality rates followed by underweight). This is according to the Journal of the American Medical Association.

Not sure how much more than 1000hp robert was running, but it is in th 150's trap speed

Re: Typhoon or Syclone for high HP build

whats with all the cage talk. its going to be street car, nothing streetable about having tubing next to your head all the way around. even a simple 5mph or less tap from another car and your head is going right into the bars. no thanks!
