Well...I just installed my alpine receiver in the area where the stock cd player used to be and I have come up to a problem....it sticks out wayyy too far. and right now it's propped up to where it'll slide right out if i give it some gas...this is what it looks like.

What do yall suggest I do...I'm thinking about cutting some stuff behind it to make room, but I don't know. Also, would a pocket fit in there?

Re: alpine receiver

you need to get the radio install kit from a local stereo shop before you go cutting anything. That should mount the radio correctly and also pull it out like that so it doesn't hit anything

Re: alpine receiver

"I" think your distress is because you haven't tucked the harness behind the head unit. It is hitting the stuff behind the deck and holding it out of the dash.

Once you do that, and buy an install kit, you will feel all warm and fuzzy when you look at it again.

Re: alpine receiver

yea you need a install kit, it will cover up that gapping hole and it will stick out a little.

Re: alpine receiver

ok...so i got the installation kit and put it in...there was still a little gap between the receiver and kit but i didn't think that would matter. so i take a little ride and it still comes out whenever i give it some gas. i'm thinking about just getting in installed by best buy or something. this isn't my top priority right now and i don't really have time to work on it too long. any suggestions?

Re: alpine receiver

Your Alpine radio is supposed to have a mounting cage.... the cage secures to the kit, then the Alpine radio slides into the kit and locks into place. Then, a trim ring goes around the nose of the Alpine radio to trim it out.

If the Alpine still sticks out too far, there is an extension kit, with an extended nosepiece that will let the Alpine lock into place in the cage, and it will look all 'purdy'... or is it bling bling now?? ;)

Re: alpine receiver

Looks like the radio had been ISO-DIN mounted (a mounting system in which the headunit is mounted behind the dash panel with side brackets) and the spring clips that go into the tabs of the cage are off as well.

The newer alpines don't have the spring clips anymore, they adopted a more tradtional can with the parts that just clip into the body of the deck.

You must use a "can" to mount it, and you will also need the trim ring as they radio will slide into the dash if you don't use it. If you don't have these, they can be found online.

I wouldn't take my Sy/Ty to a best buy. I used to work for them, and they just have to many part time 7.50$ an hour idiots around to touch such a fast truck.

At least take it to a small shop where you can watch them pull your shit in & out. At most thats a 20 minute install (and thats a long estimation, a serious installer could have that done in 5).

Re: alpine receiver

i guess the follow is all dependent upon the condition of your typhoon and what you are willing to do to it. You will need a cage and trim ring and instal kit. thats a given. But if you dont like the look of the deck being all pushed out, even with the extension mentioned above, you can take a heat gun to the plastic vent tubing beind the radio. The plastic tubes feed the vents above the radio, if you dont mind modifying this area then do the following,

1 remove all trim and removable parts from the area.

2 protect all wires that cant be removed with a heat sheild of some sort,

3 grab you a decent heat gun, have a hammer handy( substitute other large tool if you like), have fire saftey equip handy as well just in case.

4 heat the plastic up, it will take some serious heat to melt this plastic, but dont heat it so long that it is running or burning thru, just enough to make it workable.

5 once it is heated up, grad the head of the hammer, using the handle end to push againt the plastic, apply pressure and manipulate the plastic to your liking. do not push it with your hands, it does burn!

6 repeat as many times as necc.

Note, if you do happen to poke thru the plastic dont worry too much, just make sure to patch the hole so that your A/C and heat arent blowing directly onto the alpine unit.

I was able to stuff my flip out dvd screen in the stock location and have the front edge of my cage flush with the install kit without an extension, the dvd in my truck is probably and inch or 2 deeper than your unit so you wont have to molsd the plastic as much.

Just an option.

Be careful if you choose to do this!

Re: alpine receiver

get a 99-6500 or a 99-6501 chrysler kit heat up the vents a bit push them back with a chunk of wood install the kit front load the radio and it will sit flush with the radio bezal.
tools you will need.

heat gun
small chunk of wood
a peice of back strap(to make brakets for mounting into stock holes)
and in about an hour it looks better then anything made for the opening.not to mention the deck dont stick out like a sore thumb
