Hey everyone, I'm new to the site, but not new to the Typhoon. I've got a question? Has anyone done the front/rear brake conversion from baer? Or is there a cheaper route.......
Thanks

Re: Baer Brake conversion

I purchased the 13 inch front rotors and 12 inch rear rotors from a 1995 corvette and the same pbr front and rear calipers that baer sells was told it was the same stuff in there kit all from a c4 vette .Now I must call baer and see if they will sell me the brackets but it all seems to be fitting correct at this time .So maybe you can look into this setup . Got the calipers from my dad for free and bought the rotors from ebay that are slotted and cross drilled also hub areas were powder coated red all 4 for $150 shipped cheap! I will let you know when it is done and how it stops Good Luck !!

Re: Baer Brake conversion

I have baer 12" fronts and like them (Its based on the 88-95 Corvette J55 brakes) Right now the LS1 front brakes w/adapters is the slightly better setup & cheaper (and you can buy the parts used if your looking to save money). CBR Performance sells the fronts adapter. You can used LS1 rear brakes as well, they are mostly a bolt on, except for the parking brakes and one syclone you have to trim the axle flange. Do a search for them. The Baer rears (based on 84-87 Corvette rear) are more of a bolt on, but are premium price.

The rear are not what Baer uses. Its a PIA to convert the parking brake, so Baer uses the 84-87 Corvette disc/drum setup. I don't know if Baer will sell the front adapters seperately.

You will need new brakes lines and Baer's custom brake adapter and modified corvette caliper brackets. You could modify the Corvette brackets (you would still need Baer aluminum brackets), but it involves cutting off the mounting flange flush, drilling and tapping the mounting holes.

Anyways you may find it cheaper & easier to use CBR adapters and LS1 brakes.

Re: Baer Brake conversion

Hi
I've done the Baer rear conversion the 12" slotted/drilled discs.
The brake calipers are made by PBR (australia)and are altered by Baer for the handbrake system and are complete delivered with al brackets and brake lines, bolts etc.
I also added the anti groan damper kit on the rear Baer kit.
The same calipers are also used on the vettes.
There is also a kit from www.stainlesssteelbrakes.com and www.p-s-t.com but they have just 10.5" -11" brake discs when I purchased my Baer kit, so your missing 1" of stopping power.
On the front I've done it completely different
I've bought the www.cbrperformance.com C5 brake conversion kit.

and all the Z06 calipers and stuff with 13" Baer brake discs bought at www.paceperformance.com
The CBR is not just a bolt on kit, you have grind and cut on the spindels but it is the easiest way and complete delivered with bolts and wahers and easy to do.
Also you need to replace the wheels with some 18" wheels for around $900
There is also a BAER ultimate front brake kit with a 4 piston caliper for about $ 2295 for the real race enthousiasts.
But this is real stopping power.

Goodluck with your upgrade.

I've got the 17" zr1 wheels on the truck, and I'm going to go the cheaper route for the brake upgrade. I like the corvette brake setup you've got. I'm sure it was much cheaper than the baer setup. I'd like to do the same with mine. I'm guessing that they would clear with 13in rotors in front......
