hello, im new to the forums as you can see. there is a 93 jimmy that i am looking to purchase which is local to me. checking this thing out, it's done right. seller tells me it's a jimmy, but has the ty motor, tranny, ecu & dash from a 93 ty. i have never driven in a ty before, so i dont know too much about them. rode in it once, and 1st feels really strong, but then the rest of the gears dont seem to throw me into the seat the same way. is there any thing else i should watch for? doing a search, i know about the hard shift from 1st to 2nd & the trannys. just wondering if there is anything else?

VIN.....

Yes they knock your head back in first and unless it's modded, 2,3....4, don't seem as violent

the VIN is to a 93 2wd Jimmy. i checked that through the local dealer. which was on the window plate and driver's door pillar.

if it's really sharp and in perfect shape that would be the top end i would give for a clone. cause you can buy a decent real one for a little more than that

yeah, definitely all straight. clean, no rust, low miles. just not the Z vin code. as long as im not getting ripped, then that's cool. any one else have input?

7k for clone sounds too much to me. With so many syty's being sold close to that price range I would rather have the real thing, and something that might hold some value.

I always wonder about clones also and if the drivetrain is not stolen.

Re: newbie looking at a jimmy/ty conversion

I would stay away from clones. I already bought one a few years back. It is the grey one on sportmachines. It was the biggest piece of crap. It broke down after I drove it around the block. It later caught on fire. I was so pissed off I just had it towed away. I should have took the parts off it but I didn't want nothing to do with it after that. You can buy a real thing for the price of a clone. A clone wont hold the value over time.

thanks for the input. other than insurance, is there any benefit to having a clone?

or what about the real thing, but having a salvage/rebuild title?

Insurance is 2 edged sword, sure it might be cheaper to insure, but once you need insurance you will get paid for a jimmy. "We will give you $500!"

Clones also mean someone else has messed with just about every part of the truck. If done well should be ok, done by a hack living next to Myclone then watch out.

For driver salvage might be ok, again depends what happened and how well the work was done. I have seen a ty with salvage title over a fuel pump before.

On flip side some syty's were wrecked hard yet didn't get salvage title either.

that's like a teaser....info definitely please? email me @ EBXGSXR@COMCAST.NET or PM me your number and ill call you when i get home from work later today.

i definitely understand the insurance thing. it was mentioned above about stolen parts. how can i make sure that there are no stolen parts? anyway to check the motor &/or tranny? the truck was definitely done well. looking over everything it's definitely not a hack job. that's why i was so drawn to the truck.

Its a 2wd clone with no cladding. Its value is basically the value of the motor & syty part or $2K ball park. To most people if the motor didn't impress you as a first time driver, its probably not running right either.

Re: newbie looking at a jimmy/ty conversion

well, the motor did impress me. just didnt seem as "thrown me back in my seat" as 1st & 2nd gear.

so realistically, offering this guy $4-5k would be reasonable? maybe $6K?

Re: newbie looking at a jimmy/ty conversion

the other things is there is one with a salvage title on ebay that is in VA. if i recall correctly it was totalled due to something other than a problem like an accident or the like. ill have to email him again and find out. he has a buy it now of something like $9k. anyone think this is a bad deal.

and sorry for all the newbie questions. just seems like not many ppl know about these trucks, and everyone here is so knowledgeable....thanks for everyone's time.

no it is actually done completely right. it's the motor, trans, ecu, dash. so now it's an awd truck. just has the W vin code.
