Re: 2012 Shindig Event Schedule

Is the scavenger hunt where we drive down the interstate and look for pieces of cladding and transmissions that fell from peoples trucks?

If anyone picks up an actual confirmed SyTy part off the side of the road on the way to the event, I will make sure they get a small bonus prize.

*Note - ripping parts off your or your friends trucks while at the gas station filling up does not count. Part must have become detached by means of non human interaction :p

Actually a speed stop challenge would kick ass vs a 0-60-0, as its a lot easier to monitor.

Heck I would be willing to help run that event if they can secure a straight strip long enough and one we can do some heavy braking on.

Go to 8:30 mark to see speed stop stuff.

Speed Stop Challenge is what I meant. Much easier...I remenber us talking about it in another thread.

I'll also help run that event if needed. I think it would be super fun!

Re: 2012 Shindig Event Schedule

We are exploring the possibility of this (speed/stop challenge), but we join our autocross with the local SCCA chapter (Buccaneer Region) and allow them to run the show, so it'll be up to them whether or not that gets accomplished. The spot where we race is secluded, dedicated, and perfect for racing....BUT it's also owned by the State of Georgia and even though I have a family member on the GPA staff, it's still easier and cheaper to utilize the SCCA, as their involvement guarantees proper insurance, course layout, timing equipment, etc....

And for those interested in helping with the Shindig....we'll have some responsibilities to delegate soon enough....don't you worry. :D

speed/stop makes more sense when teamed up with drag racing avenue. With that said you really just need a straight section of pavement. The distance can be adjusted to keep speeds in check. Heck you could setup one in 60ft if you wanted. 1/8th mile is the longest I would want it setup personally.

Re: 2012 Shindig Event Schedule

Doing anything but drag racing is gonna be out for the dragstrip. We'll be running on a regular test-n-tune night and they won't deviate from the schedule for anything unless you rent out the track (not budget smart for us considering). If you came to Shindig 2010 or have ever seen the autox track on Hutchinson Island (hint: pics on http://sytyshindig.com/blog/track-autox/), you'll know that it's plenty long enough for a speed challenge....with the SCCAs blessing of course.

Re: 2012 Shindig Event Schedule

I'm rubbing elbows with the Bucc Region more and more these days, so hopefully, we'll get the go ahead on a speed challenge. The catch? It might require it being done on Friday and that would give drag racing the boot. Thoughts?

I'll get more info and (if necessary) throw a poll up.
