.. I can't find a stupid small part.

I got my 4x4 Vortec Oil pan today. I degreased it and I need to have a -10AN fitting welded to it, before I install. So I was of to the welder, but I just need to grab the oil pan and grab the weld 10AN bung, but I can't find the damn bung  I just waste 3 hours looking for the part and I still can't find it. I saw it 3 or 4 weeks ago, I am pretty sure it was either in my bed of my truck or on the engine crate. I know I have seen it, but I just can't find it.

I can't install the motor without the oil pan.
I can't install the oil pan with out installing the bung for the oil return line.
I can't find the bung

Heh, this is why I keep EVERYTHING together. That way, if I can't account for one part, I don't have anything

. Don't worry, it will turn up. Usually after you stop looking for it...

I am usually pretty well organized, all my bolts are in bags, most of the bags labeled. It was supose to be in the bed of my Syclone with all the rest of the parts. After I stripped my junkyard Vortec long block, I starting pulling all the parts I would need to re-assemble it. After pulling out the cam, tensior, timing chain, oil pan gaskets, -10AN bung, valve train, I started to realize it might not be a good idea to have too many parts laying around he engine stand, so I decide to keep only the part outs that I would be using at that step of reassembly. I was going to put the -10AN bung back in the bed, but apparently I was absent minded and it never got back in the bed. Its small so I probably put it down somewhere...I just don't know where.

That's the other reason it takes me twice as long to do anything.
everytime I set a wrench down it becomes "lost" and I spend 15 minutes looking for the damn thing again...

Go out for a breath of fresh air.
When you walk back in the garage just scout the whole room and it will be in plain sight.

I think I know the reason why it takes you twice as long to do things, I remember the Chicago Nats. LoL

Re: I hate it when..

kinda sounds like me when i was rebuilding cheryl's motor for her 93 TY. That truck was tore apart for over a yr. i didn't loose one bolt to it. But i did manage to lose one of the oil pan rail pieces that help the oil pan rail from flexing when torqueing the bolts down. but the thing is the bolts and the other rail wer laying in the oil pan that was in the back of the ty. that was put there after i power washed them.
