do you just need a program to burn onto a chip. or do you mean an actual new eprom to put in the truck.

new chip ...I wanna burn the spare and have a stocker on hand for smog, just incase.

I have one that I put a socket in. That way you can swap chips really easy. Let me know...

Get a G1 from moates, and keep your existing MEMCAL stock.

Reburning stock MEMCALs is a PITA... can be done, but it's much easier to have somethign like a G1.

What else would I need besides the G1, anything? I haven't really researched the moates option so I don't completely understand how it would work. Any good links available for this setup? thx.

www.moates.net. There's a g1 + 512 chip combo. That's all you need.
(Assuming you have the chip burner, obviously. A wide band o2 is pretty much a must also, if you intend on doing anything useful.)

If you think you're just gonna download a file from someplace, burn it, and have everything be right, you've got a long road ahead of you. A good tune is a rather long, drawn out process, not just a one-shot-and-you're- done kinda thing.
