Neutral Safety Switch Cable removal questions

I'm installing the Art Carr gate shifter which I can't use with the neutral safety switch setup. I searched the forums and couldn't find anything specific to the removal process nor is the factory service manual very clear about how to remove it.

If anyone here with prior experience removing this cable from the steering column could provide some input, I would greatly appreciate it.

Re: Neutral Safety Switch Cable removal questions

Hrmm... I didn't remove it in the GT ... maybe a bad thing? the cable that is down there is the one that locks it in park, has nothing to do with neutral to my knowledge (that is electric). It should be hooked to a solenoid on the column, ought to pull right out if you unclamp the cable

That cable is the one that doesn't let you pull it out of park unless there is a key in the ignition. Has nothing to do with neutral safety. Neutral safety is the guy over on the passenger side that has the wire harness running to it.

Yes, I meant the park cable.

Do you know where it is clamped on the column? I wouldn't normally ask this, but it has become a major PITA getting under the dash with the roll cage side bars in place.

Re: Neutral Safety Switch Cable removal questions

Not off the top of my head, I remember there being a plastic box (on my Sierra it was white) that the cable ran into which was on the ignition side of the column. But, as I said I didn't pull it off the GT, I just fed it behind the A/C duct and left it there
