Need answer rather quickly, please help.

Will a BMW 18 wheel fit on our trucks. I saw a Typhoon pictured here with Hamman wheels which is traditionally based off a BMW lug pattern. Any ideas? Just curious because I need to pass inspection and have no spare (thought I could sneak a spare 540i sport wheel in there).

Thanks,

I've heard horror stories of what that stuff will do to aluminium wheels. I don't think I would ever consider using it.

Of course, I don't want extra weight either, so I went with an even lighter option - a AAA card ;)

yes, 5 series wheels will fit bolt pattern wise, the backspacing is going to be wrong though so outside the spare I wouldn't try it.

They will work perfect for the rear, but the offset is too low for the front. I tried bolting a set of M5 wheels on the other day to see if I could get them to fit. Looks awsome in the rear, looks like poo in the front. They stick out way too far.

It's fine as long as you wash it off right away, the mistake most people make that have problems is they put it in there and then it holds air again so they forget about it. After a couple weeks or "geez" months :roll: it does start to eat away at the wheel. Just the vibration alone would drive me up the wall I couldn't imagine going that long.

AAA is way eaiser though :tup:

EDIT: I forgot to mention DON'Tuse Fix-A-Flat, Slime, or any like substance on vehicals equiped with a air pressure monitoring system. It will ruin the sensor of the wheel it's placed in and they run about $70-$100 each to replace, plus labor to have them installed.

Just need something there to pass inspection, that's all.

Exactly why I'm putting 5 series Borbets on the GT :tup:

If you don't plan on keeping the spare in your truck, then you can use just about any type of spare tire (as long as it is inflated) as a decoy. I doubt that the inspection station will test fit your spare on the truck.

i think you want rear 3 series for front syty wheels.....and rear 5 series for rear syty wheels...puts you w/in a few mm's of perfect offsets.

the bolt pattern is a tad off too btw....still fits though.

120mm bmw vs. 4.75in (120.65mm) syty

Re: Need answer rather quickly, please help.

guess i'll just post my findings from eons ago:

SyTy Wheels:
5x120.65mm, 5x4.75"

Front:
16 x 8
41mm offset

Rear:
16 x 8
13mm offset

==========================
Jaquar XJ, XK
5x120.65
20mm offset
(works for rear syty)

BMW 5x120mm
x5 = 40/45mm
3series = 46/47mm
5series = 20mm
7series = 24mm
Z3 = 41-46mm
Z4 = 47mm

Shouldn't matter if you use the front or rear off a 3 or 5 series, they 're the same offsets. Just to make sure that's clear, but you're 100% correct on the 3 series front and 5 series rear.

Any ideas on the X3? I know the X5 has different offsets like a SyTy, but was unsure of its little brother.

To add to your list, the 6 and 8 series take a lower offset wheel also, but I don't have exact offsets, I'll see what I can come up with.

Re: Need answer rather quickly, please help.

The wheels I just bought came off a 5 series and have a 13mm offset (although that may be because they're 8" width, not 9" )

some wheelsets are staggered offsets though. I think the x3 is a diff offset which is why it didn't make my list. The 6series wasn't around when i made the list, and the 8 series is obscure.

My 540i sport wheels are staggered. 235/40 upfrnt, 265/35 out back... I'll give it a try...thanks Mike
