Lighter causes radio fuse to blow?! ---

pppssssshhhhhtttttttttttt
Hey guys, I have tried to use my lighter twice....and each time it just blew out my radio fuse under the dash. Could it have blown out other fuses that I dont notice? Is this common? What is causing it and how should I go about fixing it? Thanks ---

Re: Lighter causes radio fuse to blow?! ---

just go to walmart or your fav local auto parts store and get a new universal lighter replacment, and you shoudl be able to reuse your stock lighter element.

Been there done that, real easy to change.

I have had this happen before. I am not sure but I think when the lighter was pushed in. A bent prong or other piece of metal pushed into a ground and blew the fuse. Phil

Been there before. I just bought a new piece at the autopart store. It was the lighter part with the inside part for 6 or so dollars and 10 minutes of my time to change it out and that was it.

I too was having this same problem and it was driving me nuts. It is the prongs on the inside, you can replace the socket as suggested or you can pull the prongs up (as I did) which also works.

Realizing that this was going to be a problem again somewhere in the future I added a multisocket unit in the open console. I also added an on/off switch so I leave stuff plugged in at night without putting a draw on the battery. I'll try to post pics tonight if I remember.
