Air Horns

I am thinking about installing some Air Horns in the Ty, not the 'Wolo' ones, I want something that will scare the crap out of the ricers that cut you off....drive slow in front of you..etc., maybe some that the Tracker Trailers have, but hidden. Anybody have some knowledge on this? The little research I have done is that the louder ones have a 1 gallon or so air tank, possible to mount under the battery...

Any other info/help/input would be great! :tup:

The loudest I have seen are actually 18 wheeler units with tanks... too bad you can't get an electronic simulation so you don't need the tank

Might want to check in your state about the laws governing these.

They are starting to get more and more illegal to have on regular cars/trucks. There are a few people around here who have them. But they use train horns. And they can face some serious fines if busted blowing them at people. Because say you blow it at an old person with a bad heart, and it cause's them to have a heart attack. They lose control of their car, hit someone, or something and kill that person, or themself. Your looking at jail time due to you being the one who caused it.

Just carry aroung one of the little portable ones and when they get ready to "FLY BY" speed up and blast that in their window.

The ones at Hornblasters are actually train horns. The K5 hors are the best. You can actually hear them from 5 miles away. :lol:

Not cheap but a friend of mine has a set of the $700 ones and people actually stop at the old railroad crossing about 1/2 block away when he blows them. Funny thing is the rails have been removed for years from those tracks.

Hornblasters are the ones a local has on his Xtreme and you can hear them in the basement of our brick building. He is running dual compressors and a rather large tank for his airbags.

They are definitely train horns.

I am sure they are borderline illegal because of how loud they are.
I think they advertise 187+ dB.

I put the electic hellas on the wifes car after a senior citizen backed into her in a parking while she held the horn in honking at him. They advertise 117 dB and are plenty loud without being obnoxious.
Kind of European sounding if ya ask me.

they are pretty cheap on ebay and tap into the factory horn wiring easily.

i saw a truck on nopi tunervision that had the train horns mounted under the bed, 8 miles away you could here it, over kill maybe??????

I used to sell part at a shop here in miami and the was a kit with 3 horns and a tank with a built in compressor that sold for like $350. It was train like but down here guy put them on everything from civic to BMW's i will find a link and post tonight of were you can get it.

Check the foreign car shops. The make an integral horn/compressor that can be quite loud. The big truck horns just need air, a valve, and room. I've never measured one but they have to around 18" - 24". I drive a truck that has the regular "diesel" horns and a train horn on it. Fun when I need it which is rare because it is literally to damn loud with the result that people end up hating trucks more than they did before.

That's hilarious, we were just talking about this last night. Aren't the really loud ones taken from the freight trains? I thought they were pretty big and heavy, and I thought I once saw them on ebay for a couple hundred bucks.
