Flex-a-lite fuse holder issue

Just thought I'd pass this along.
I used the "RamChargers" dual fan setup on my Ty.
Initially used a Flex-a-lite HD 30 amp temp control adj. version.
First try, the temp probe was no good.
They replaced that.
Then the controller melted(fuse didn't blow). I said screw it and went to a 75 amp HD relay but continued using the fuse holder that came with the Flex-a-lite.
Low and behold, smoke, no fans....mini fuse holder MELTED. FUSE DID NOT BLOW. Holder itself melted. I'll put up pics. The little fuse holder was not able to take the heat of 30 amps and melted.
Short term, I'm using an Autozone, normal size fuse holder with 10 g wire that I will soon upgrade to a Maxifuse 30 amp 8g setup.
I just wanted to pass this on to those wanting to try the Flex-a-lite controller. Just don't do it.

Re: Flex-a-lite fuse holder issue

Agreed... don't use their stuff. I had a bad temp probe, then a melted fuse holder, and finally the controller got hot enough that 3 of the contacts de-soldered themselves from the board  ... I just have a 30 amp relay powering the fan with a GM temp sender regulating it.

Anyone else had problems with thier VSC fan controller? I was reseraching those the other day, and found a few people had problems with them....

I can tell you my opinion of Flex-A-Lite wasn't real high to start, and this info isn't helping.

Flea a Lite recalled their old style fuse holder, call them, they will send you a 40amp (the big type) fuse and holder free.

Re: Flex-a-lite fuse holder issue

The fuse holder I had was their HD unit. I knew of the recall. I made sure that's not what they were sending me when I ordered it. I researched this as well. Putting a 40 amp fuse in a mini fuse holder is not a fix. The kit just cannot handle the current that electric fans need. Like I said, the first probe had zero continuity, then they sent me another, it worked. Then the control unit melted inside(fuse never blew) then the fuse holder melted(fuse never blew). A good 75 amp relay and a GOOD fuse holder fixed the issue. $45 as opposed to $112 I paid for the controller.
