HELP possible oil leak! Trans help.

Greetings All,
I'm new here, so hi! My name is Ryan I just got a 92 Ty in red and I'm starting to sort out the mechcanical issues. First thing is a possible oil leak from the turbo to the pan. There are two lines that go from the bottom of the turbo to the pan. How do I fix or replace those lines? From the pan side, the lowest line has a silicon high temp tube on it. The hard line above it has a larger diameter. At the turbo it has a banjo fitting. If you need pics, I got em ready.

Secondly, my trans jumps from 1-2 but not so much from 2-3, etc. It jerks real hard at 20 mph when shifting. I think this is a servo spring or an o ring that needs to get replaced but I'm not fimilar with the 700r4 yet. How do I replace those?

Your oil leak is most likely the turbo oil return line. It was a really bad design from the factory, metal nearly all the way, then a piece of hose - real smart on GM's part. You could either put a new piece of hose on yours and it will most likely last for several years- that is your cheaper fix. The best fix is to order a braided line from RPM and end your problem, they are around $75 + shipping. either way good luck with whatever you decide.

The 1/2 shift is normally hard, I would not be concerned by this, and def. dont tear into what seems to be a decent transmission from what you described. There are only a limited amount of people on here that really know these transmissions- one less at this point. One of the better builders is no longer an active member. Anyway good luck and get some pics up.:tup:

Isn't this trans just a 700r4? Is there something different about TY/SY 700 trans than a regular 4.3 mated to a 700r4? Plus I believe the part are accessable by dropping the trans pan. Never hurts to replace fluid, filter, and a gasket on an unknown car. When I say it kicks, it's really jarring and miserable to drive.

The banjo and the fitting opposite from it are engine coolant... you won't get oil from those.

The oil return (2 small bolts on the bottom, hose clamps on the other end) is your likely culprit.
Remove/clean/replace hose and gasket. Don't use heater hose, it's not rated for long-term oil exposure.
If you like, you can get a braided hose replacement for the oil lines.

Hard shifting trannies are pretty normal. Like Richard said, adjust the cable first. Filter and fluid are always a good idea. I wouldn't mess with anything else, though. Get yourself a good trans cooler (like a 22,000 GVW or above) and the tranny will last much longer.

The SyTy 700R4 is calibrated differently from any other 700R4. What works on other vehicles doesn't necessarily apply here.

Thanks All. The servo spring is good but the piston is stuck I started a new topic on this one if y'all want to cime in there.
