My Frame Up AWD Sonoma/Sy-Clone Project

Alright so i shall finally start the progress thread on this thing. I'll keep it updated as a I go along of course, but it will most likely go slow since i am on a strict budget. But here are the basics...

-The truck originally is an '87 S10 SC SB 2WD with an Iron Duke. I bought the truck in 2001 from a co-worker and drove it around a while till I swapped a V8 in it in early '03. Then i went through a few transmitions that summer, and the truck sat since late that year. I'm resurrecting it with the combo I stated above, AWD with a Syclone engine. Nothing too crazy now, but i will be paint/polishing anything that can be with lots of new parts.

-Frame is from a 4WD S10 with a 4.3
-Engine top to bottom Syclone
-Still need to find an AWD T-Case, and the proper yolk for the front diff
-New drive shafts
-Front and rear diff out of a 93 Blazer LT (even front and rear limited slip :tup:)
-Maybe some sort of aftermarket turbo stuff?
-4L60E for now, with TCI trans controller
-Big Stuff 3 Engine management
-All new wiring from the ground up

Going to be putting "Corvette" door handles in. Got the outer handle skin from a Buick LeSabre... (not welded in yet)

The guy I bought it from had put LOTS of Lund accessories on the truck, which i will now have to weld all the holes in. :/

Thats it for now, I'll be busting ass on it this next week since i don't have any cars coming in that i know of. I'll be sure to get some new pics up then. Thanks for looking! :tup:

Looks like you've got your work cut out for you! That cab is in decent shape. I like the windshield sticker.

Thant sounds like a fun project. Since you are planning to run BS3 why don't you have it control the trans to? That way you can ditch the TCI trans controller and have one unit do it all :2cents: I didn't know that the 93's had posi's in the front, let alone the rear???

Me either, i got the parts out of a parts vehicle i got. Not sure if its aftermarket, but they are for sure limited slip. :tup: I didnt know the big stuff 3 controlled the trans too, way bad ass! (I still havent purchased any of it yet, no where near that phase yet but all the help is very appreciated. Thanks!

Since your at the begining of the process.. as a suggestion why not put a 98up 4.3L in it... with factory ECM.
It'll controll the trans/engine and you can edit it with HPTuners. saves alot of $ right there.

If your planning on making quite a bit of power then change out the rods/pistons for good stuff.

The newer vortec's are better engines than the Sy/Tys and much cheaper and easier to find.

You can use Sy/Ty exhaust mflds/turbo/downpipe on that engine still. Get a marine intake manifold

from e-bay for 200.00 and save a ton of $.

Up to you totally but just a suggestion.

wow and i thought i was blowing money on my ty, starting with a 2wd truck to make a awd clone is a lot of work and parts. and swapping out the v8? you sound like you like pain and torment.

Scott how much power are you making on your setup? I'm still going to be going the sy/ty route though since i want a VERY clean engine bay with any wires hidden... Cool setup though.

With BS3 everything is an upgrade. to run a trans, you need to purchase that from them. buying it all at once is the cheapest.

Small update. I got a pretty good deal on a Hayden Trans Cooler (Identical to the B&M SuperCooler) for the trans at a local store. Its a pretty big one too, with the very cheap price of 15 bucks! Obviously something pretty minor, but still happy about the deal i got for it.

Update:

Got all the wleding on the cab done today, ready to start laying some body filler. I'll get some pics up here of it. I ended up just shaving the handles, i ran into too many problems with the rod and the window track hitting. It'll look cleaner anyway... The fire wall sure looks a lot better, but no havac will be not cool (no pun intended) I'll drill holes as needed when i run the new wiring once the cab is on the frame and everything, but im going to try and keep everything low and hidden. Anyone have an suggestions on that?
