Powermaster died - anyone else make high-amp alternators?

My 140A Powermaster died in one year. The bearings started squealing and the thing almost seized up...what a POS! Needless to say, I'm not interested in buying another one. Are there any other quality alternators on the market over 140 amps? The archives didn't turn up much other than, "I know a guy who can rewind your...etc., etc." Any help would be appreciated as I don't feel too good with that stock alternator being back in there

Thanks,
Jeremy

Yeh, nobodys perfect. All we can do is take the experience of enuf people and try to put together a picture of how good the different aftermarket parts are.

If the bearings burned out, ya need to start thinking about misalignment. maybe the Serp belt is cocked a little or too tight. I think they use a ball bearing, don't they ? Which should be better than the stock bushing.

Have U talked to Powermaster ? Maybe they are willing to help. Some Tech help is one thing that these guys oughta do for a good reputation - and alot of them don't. Need I say it - A...

I've seen a few run them without bolting in the rear case mount bolt. Ive heard of a person cracking their alt bracket doing this as well.

Although it may work fine without that bolt, I tend to think it would help alignment and keep things solid. You didnt by chance leave the rear bolt out did you?

I know of people runing w/o fine, but maybe some of the failures can be attributed to the lack of installation. (although I wouldnt go as far as to blame them all on it)

just thinking out loud... so far been very happy with my chrome 140 amp powermaster.

Do a search for alternator parts, once you take one apart you will learn what is inside, everything can be bought piece by piece as you run checks and figure out what went wrong.

It is actually rewarding once you understand how things work inside. Then you can start buying nicer stuff like John posted.

Repaired a few CS-144's when they went. Confusing at first but then you figure it out and it isn't that big of a deal.
