What brand of Front Wheel hub/bearing is best?

Syclone Rob

Its all ABOOT the SYTY eh
When I plan to do my brakes, I might as well put on new front wheel hubs. I don't want to put on cheap stuff that I will have to do in 1 year or so time. So what do you guys recommend?

I've used National for as long as I've been working on cars. Never had one let me down.

If you have deleted your ABS you can get the std 4x4 jimmy wheel bearings as they do not have the abs toning ring in them and are nearly half the cost.

Good to know, and there is napa where I live. I will give them a call.

What is a ball park price you guys pay? I want to compare the cost here and see which is cheaper.

Interestintg that this thread came up - I noticed what seems to be an excessive amount of movement on my hubs. I made a vid of it but don't have acces to my own comp for a few days.

The steering seems tight but the wheel has travel on the hub - how much is normal? It sems to really counter the effects of tight steering.

I bought my Timkens on-line about a year ago.... I think they were around $117 each.. Timken has always been my favorite - these are still made in the U.S. :D

These prices should be fairly indicative of your local pricing.

Re: What brand of Front Wheel hub/bearing is best?

Quikstop - assuming your lugnuts are tight, that is FUBAR big time. New hubs should have zero play. I've always grabbed the top and bottom of the tire and rocked in and out, checking for movement. ANY movement means slop in the wheel bearings, or in our sy/tys slop in the wheel hub. Double check to make sure the 3 wheel hub bolts to the knuckle are tight. If you rock the tire at 3 and 9 o'clock and find any slop, it could be steering linkages.

I know you're still putting your ride back together, but I wouldn't test drive it without sorting out the excessive wheel play first! Good luck

Re: What brand of Front Wheel hub/bearing is best?

thanks mate - I'll have a closer look tomorrow.

Kind of inclined to get the new hubs anyway - I'll need em at some point!

I didn't see the three nuts - just the big one on the side with a weird key in it. Hopefully it is just loose as the guy assembling it didn't put it together correctly like so much else....

Thanks for the help!

So What brand of Front Wheel hub/bearing is best? If I am building an 800HP Syclone & want the strongest parts which brand is the best to go with? Price is not an issue just to avoid those opinions which take better price as better product. Which are the best, most reliable & strongest.

Well that was a nice swivel in your movie
as simpleman says test m again with your hands at 12 and 6 o'clock when its still the same, new ones.
But also check your bolts from the inside of te spindle(look at the pic holes where they should be) which goes thru the spindle ito the HUB or order new ones with the hub.
